Aircraft Warning Squadron, Gander, Nfld.

Information
In accordance with a government decision, an RCAF manned and operated aircraft warning squadron is to be activated at Gander, Nfld., under the operational control of the 64th Air Division of the USAF. Because it is desirable to have RCAF personnel at this site at an early date, administrative occupancy is to commence as soon as accommodation is available. From information provided on the state of construction, the buildings will be completed by 1 Feb 53.
Note: The number of this aircraft warning squadron will be announced as soon as an RCAF – USAF bloc of code numbers for this sector has been determined.
Intention
To form the Aircraft Warning Squadron at Gander, Nfld.
Execution
Effective Date
This Squadron is to be activated on an administrative status effective 1 Feb 53. ADCHQ is to advise AFHQ when the aircraft warning squadron is capable of assuming its operational function.
Function
The function of this squadron is to detect and report the plan position of all aircraft within the area of surveillance; and, if VHF is provided, render navigational assistance as required to friendly aircraft operating within the area, and provide limited control and direction to friendly combat agencies.
Command
The officer appointed to command this Aircraft Warning Squadron is to be CO as defined by QR(Air) art 1.02(xxi)
Control
While the functional and administrative control of this Squadron is to be exercised by the AOC ADC, this Squadron is to operate under the control of the USAF 64th Air Division for operational purposes. In this connection, the CO of this squadron is to keep ADCHQ constantly advised of operational activities.

Establishment
Establishment code 6220 GCIG is to become effective 1 Feb 53.
Personnel
The transfer or posting or both of personnel is to be arranged by AFHQ and ADCHQ.
