ADCHQ Telecommunication conference attended by F/O G Tahir-Ali – STelO.

The traditional entertainment of the Senior NCO’s and the serving of the Airmen’s Xmas dinner was held.

1 Jan 54

A levee was held in the Officers Mess which was attended by eighty-five guests which included official representatives of the Department of Transport, Customs and Immigration, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, RCN, civilian Doctors and Dentists, local business firms, clergy, the station managers of twenty-six commercial Airlines, refuelling and aircraft servicing companies, CNT, CNR and the officials of local social and service clubs.

The Airport manager used the occasion to welcome the RCAF back to Gander and expressed the hope the we would become a part of the "Gander Airlines Family".

The radome on the main search radar was installed and accepted.

226 AW Squadron went operational at 1130Z on this date.

1 Feb 54

#7 Ground Observer Corps Filter Station, occupying building 75 at Gander Airport, was attached to RCAF Station Gander for Supply, Accounting and Maintenance.

8 Mar 54

S/L HE Pledge, CO, attended the 64th Air Division Commanders Conference at Fort Pepperrell AFB, St. John’s, Nfld.

11 Apr 54

S/L Sutherland, the Senior Welfare Officer from AFHQ, paid a staff visit to the unit.

17 May 54

Establishment Amendment – The Commanding Officer establishment was raised from Flight Lieutenant to Squadron Leader.
