General Information

CFS Armstrong operations were terminated on 1 April 1974, the 50th anniversary of the RCAF. Since some of the equipment was owned by the Americans, this had to be returned to the USA. Some equipment was sent to Calumet AFS, Michigan and other pieces to Watertown AFS, NY. The FPS-6B height-finder was shipped to McClellan AFB, California. An AN/GKA-5 was sent to the CF School of Communications and Electronics Engineering at Kingston for training purposes. Other material was sent to 25 CF Supply Depot, Montreal.

A teletype from CFS Sioux Lookout read: "Your reputation in the RCAF and CAF are second to none. We will miss you on the net. One happy note is Sam Lake is now the very best station on the Line. (CFS Sioux Lookout was located by Sam Lake).

It should be noted that Armstrong had both inflatable and rigid radomes upon closure, as did Ramore.
