Ground Electronics Maintenance Section:

During this period the following maintenance was accomplished on the radar equipment installed: (a) Modification to trainer AN/GPS-T2 was accomplished on 28 April 59. (b) Equipment assistance was rendered on antennas HF, VEH, VAF, inside and outside telephone plant on 19 June 1959.

Installation Engineer Section:

During this reporting period a Vivian Diesel was overhauled. One boiler was rebuilt and modification is 75% complete on the Air Conditioning in the Operations Building.

Operations Section:

On 5 June 1959 the Commander (Major WA Hafner) returned to this organization after attending the Weapons Controller’s Course, 174100, at Tyndall Air Force Base.

In April 1959, the ACTER ECM simulator was installed in conjunction with the GPS-T2 trainer. To maintain a high degree of proficiency in ECM recognition and reporting procedures, the ACTER equipment provided the operations personnel with ECM training that was as realistic as any training heretofore developed with the exception of live missions. At this time the movements and identification AMIS line was installed between the "Pinetree" sites and the Winnipeg ARTC for the passing and receiving of flight information.

In May and June, the annual turnover in personnel occurred and 30 new men were assigned to the operations section – a large scale training program was established to insure that all of the newly assigned radar operators were well qualified in their respective assignments. This training phase was important due to the fact that the new men represented over 50% of the total strength assigned. Crews were divided equally in experience and requirements with the nucleus of well trained non-commissioned officers assigned to each crew.

Supply Section:

The projects undertaken and completed during this period were as follows: (a) New pallets were constructed and installed for open storage of property – Organizational property was re-warehoused and set up on pallet storage, also a revised method of storage and identification of personal baggage was put in use. (b) The squadron Tech Supply was moved from an undesirable location in the operations area to the Unit Supply building – a complete inventory of all Tech Supply items on hand was also accomplished at this time. (c) During the month of June the 4602^nd Support Wing accomplished a Staff Visit – considerable assistance was rendered by that visit to solve problems related to supply and transportation. (d) Lt. Herrick replaced Lt. Gysel as Supply Officer – Inventory and Transfer of account was accomplished in July.
