    COMMENTARY

    Command:

Morale and unit effectiveness remained exceptionally high.

The Group III Site Phase-out plan progressed satisfactorily. No problems are anticipated.

The 30th Air Division completed their annual inspection during 24-25 May 1962. The organization was rated satisfactory.

Relationship with the civil law enforcement agencies, local merchants and other indigenous personnel remained cordial and co-operative.

    Personnel and Administration:

There were no major problems in the personnel and administrative areas.

Machine roster support from the Duluth Sector continued to be inadequate. The Sector machine room is expected to become fully operational during the next quarter and this problem should be eliminated.

    Special Services:

During this period the fishing season opened. All boats were distributed to the various lakes: Camp 15, Camp 7, Buckamiega, Flat Lake and Little Caribou.

Inventory of all equipment was completed 25 May 1962 with no discrepancies. This inventory was directed by the site phase-out plan to be accomplished by D-160.

    Supply:

The 914th Unit Supply completed a physical inventory of UAL and CAN/MEAL property. The inventory of Tech Supply was completed and Maintenance received all standby levels.

In preparation for the "hand over" to the RCAF, Tech Supply began a project to drastically cut down the number of "insurance type" items. When completed, stocks will have been reduced from approximately 3,300 to 1,000 line items.

    Communications and Electronics:

Construction of the AN/FPS-27 and Power House extension is still in progress. The TELCO building, GATR building, SAGE Annex, and AN/FPS-26 tower have all been accepted with seasonal deficiencies. Equipment has started to arrive on site for all these facilities. No major problems are anticipated and progress of construction is on schedule.

The AN/FPS-6B magnetron now has 9,386 hours of radiate time and is still holding above SAGE specifications.

    Operations:

Officer strength was increased by the addition of 1st Lt. Keith A Robinson. This brought officer strength up to 11 by the end of the period.

During the second quarter, this unit participated in three live exercises. Four Region SSTMs and thirteen Sector SSTMs were accomplished during this reporting period. Five officers attended the Physiological Refresher Course at RCAF Station Gimli in May 1962.

    Food Service:

During this reporting period, Food Service personnel served 38,392 meals; cost of food was $14,825.09

The support received from RCASC Detail Issue Depot at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada has been adequate.

    Information and Education:

During this period, eleven personnel, both officer and airmen, enrolled in education correspondence courses through USAFI, ECI and MCI. There were six courses completed during this period, and three course disenrollments.

A final total of $762 was spent for sending dependent children, of personnel living on the government reservation, to school during the 1961-62 fiscal year.
