    COMMENTARY

The 64th Air Division (Defense) conducted an IG Inspection at this Squadron from 9 April to 14 April 1958. All discrepancies have been noted and corrected. Much helpful information was gained so as to keep discrepancies at a minimum and avoid similar errors in the future.

In April one officer and fifteen airmen were gained and 9 airmen lost. In May five officers were gained and three were lost; 19 airmen were gained while eleven were lost. In June three officers were gained and three officers were lost; fourteen airmen were gained and twenty-two were lost. At the present time the squadron is experiencing a considerable influx of civilian personnel on TDY to overhaul equipment and improve site facilities.

Lt. Colonel Homer E Chatfield arrived at this organization and assumed command on 14 May 1958.

On June 7th the entire squadron participated in project "Shipshape". This was a mass detail of all available personnel for the purpose of cleaning up the site area. Over 50 truckloads of scrap and other waste material were hauled to the site dump and salvage yard. The attention of the personnel are continuously directed to the need of a "Shipshape" organization.

The Isolated Times, 923rd Squadron Newspaper, continues to be a decisive factor in acquiring news; however, another medium of communications will be inaugurated in establishing a squadron radio station, Radio Hopedale.

Due to a large increase of civilian personnel on TDY, the squadron was authorized two civilian mess attendants in June for 90 days to relieve the dining hall congestion. Two civilian carpenters were authorized temporary in June to rehabilitate the construction camp which was renamed Camp Shipshape.
