Visit of HMCS Saguenay to Seven Islands and crew to Station.

Civilian aircraft missing of flight from Mingan to Rapid Lake. SAR operation Boudreault operated with Headquarters at this station.

S/L DH Evans, Commanding Officer, transferred to AFHQ, and F/L ME Mills, CTSO, appointed acting Commanding Officer.

1 Aug 57

Operation Nimble Bat, CF-100 overfly to Goose Bay and overseas, proceeded as scheduled. One aircraft in second section developed control trouble en route and distress signal detected by this unit. It was finally determined that the aircraft was missing and believed down in the Seven Islands area. Search and Rescue set up operations from this unit, with searchmaster’s headquarters in the operations building. Ground search parties were organized from this unit’s personnel to cover the Moisie River and the area to the east. CE Section commenced landscaping of station proper.

Helicopter 9614 forced down in Moisie River with no injuries to crew on board. Station personnel organized to assist in salvaging aircraft and also guarding it.

F/O RJ Ford, PersAdm, assumed duties of CAdO – PAdO vice F/O WG Armstrong.

Visit of G/C Archambault and W/C Giguere from Station St Johns.

10 Aug 57

Search for missing CF-100 aircraft concluded. Two F-84F’s from High Flight, destination overseas, assisted in making emergency landing at Seven Islands following fuel difficulties to one of the aircraft. Technical assistance required from RCA on the 15-J1D trainer. Mr. Gravel arrived by TCA and was on site for two days.

Handing over parade – S/L CA Brunger assumed Command from Temporary Commander F/L ME Mills. Technical assistance required from RCA on the motor generator for TPS-502 Mr. Sheppard and Mr. Standring were on site for two days. Equipment was left in a serviceable condition.

Unit assisted in Search and Rescue operations for "Northern Wings" Bell Helicopter CF-IZX, 8-9-10 Nov. Search was successful; chopper found approximately 275 miles NW of Station by a SAR Lancaster operating out of Goose Bay. Pilot was unhurt.
