Wednesday – Cold – light snow all day. F/L Legare left on TD for Lac St. Denis. F/O Page on TD to ADCHQ in reference to investigation. Sgt. Rivest reported in on TD from Station North Bay to replace FS Willert as Foreman of Works.

2 Dec 54

Thursday – Cold – snow showers – F/O Morrison on TD to RCAF station Foymount for an ECM course. A/Cpl. Gallant’s promotion effective 1 Dec 54.

3 Dec 54

Friday – Cool – snow showers all day. CO’s inspection. F/L Legare returns from Lac St. Denis.

4 Dec 54

Saturday – Cool and sunny until noon – snow showers all afternoon. F/O Page returns from ADCHQ.

Sunday – Cool with snow showers all day.

Monday – Sunny for half the morning then snow showers continuing all day. F/L Caldwell in on TD from AFHQ reference Security Breach. FS Leaker returned to ADCHQ, Sgt. Thompson NCO i/c SP to Montreal Military Hospital.

Tuesday – Heavy snow. Showers all night – CO’s Conference – CO, W/C Marcou left on TD to ADCHQ for Conference of ADC CO’s. S/L St. Louis (CTechO) takes over command of Station Mont Apica.

8 Dec 54

Wednesday – Very cold during the early morning. Sunny but clouded over by lunch and we had snow flurries all afternoon. Bulldozer working on ground adjacent to NCO’s quarters in preparation for Helicopter from Bagotville.

Thursday – Cool with low clouds around all day and occasional light snow showers. Helicopter, piloted by F/O Nicholson from Bagotville after some difficulty made into the base following the road over from the Talbot Highway. F/L Raymond, RC Padre was a passenger.

10 Dec 54

Friday – Cloudy, snow showers all day. A/CO’s Inspection. Helicopter in from Bagotville during the afternoon. F/L Raymond, F/O Horsnell, F/O McKillop passengers to Bagotville.

11 Dec 54

Saturday – Beautiful sunny day – Many of the station personnel out skiing. Helicopter in from Bagotville during the afternoon with F/L Thompson (P) Padre from ADCHQ – F/O Nicholson, captain of the helicopter gave rides to station personnel in the helicopter for about 30 minutes. CO returned from ADCHQ.

12 Dec 54

Sunday – Son born to F/L and Mrs Bending. Protestant church services. Ski tow being prepared, hill being packed. Clear day, snowed slightly.

13 Dec 54

Monday – Mess Meeting. S/L Whiteford and P/O Hines visited Accounts. P/O Tarantello arrived (Assistant Adjutant). Very clear and cold. S/L Heaslip arrived in helicopter, took Protestant Padre back to Bagotville. Mrs. Alain had a son. RC School concert. Controller’s briefing before W/C McNair’s visit.

Tuesday – Sunny and fairly warm, but clear. Command audit board left. W/C McNair and S/L Rogers arrived. Father O’Hara arrived for Catholic Mission.

15 Dec 54

Wednesday – Mrs. Bending and baby returned from Chicoutimi. Snowing quite hard all day. Gathering in Officers Mess for W/C McNair and S/L Rogers in evening.

16 Dec 54

Thursday – Heavy snowfall – road blocked until mid-morning Wednesday. Liberty run did not get back until 1030 hours. W/C McNair and S/L Rogers left today. Station Trade Board completed – Promotion Board convened. W/C Marcou, S/L St. Louis and F/L Legare. Started decorating Mess this evening for Christmas.

17 Dec 54

Friday – Beautiful day – cold and clear – FS Desjardins returned from Montreal hospital. Promotion Board continued in afternoon – CO’s inspection, F/O Geneau accompanied CO – Central Warehouse party and Tower party today.

18 Dec 54

Saturday – Milder – snow and rain fall – Reserves in for weekend from Aux. Squadron Quebec City for training. F/O Johnson reported in. Bowling party at Rec. Hall – very successful.

19 Dec 54

Sunday – Mild during day. Had a little more snow. Many personnel got their Christmas trees today. Very quiet on the station.

20 Dec 54

Monday – Colder today – about zero at 0800 hours. Helicopter came in today. Four F/O’s staying the night. Headquarters party very nice.

Tuesday – Nice day – clear and cold. Helicopter came in for a few minutes. Station very quiet.

22 Dec 54

Wednesday – Quite cold and snow showers. Kiddies Christmas party this afternoon – turned out well from all reports. Cpls. Club annual party tonight. Nice party – CO attended and very pleased.

Thursday – Blustery day. Quite cold. Station quieting down with personnel going on Christmas leave. 22 passengers on Quebec City run. P/O Tarantello in the am, Mrs. Horsnell in the evening – off for Christmas.

24 Dec 54

Friday – FS Willert landed in Bagotville. HQ closed shop at 1500 hours. Midnight services lined up for both churches. FS Willert brought in by helicopter – also Protestant Padre. Carol singers toured unit.

25 Dec 54

Saturday – Clear day. Officers and NCOs served Christmas dinner to the Airmen – very successful. Open house at the CO’s home in the evening for officers and their wives. NCO’s held open house for OR’s in evening.

26 Dec 54

Sunday – Snowing a bit. Unit personnel visiting all day. Good turn out on ski hill in the afternoon. Otherwise, very quiet.

27 Dec 54

Monday – Very cold. Cpl. Ragan’s furniture arrived. All sections quiet. Bus run in at 0400 or 0500 hours with approximately 33 personnel returning from Christmas leave.

Tuesday – Snowing all day. Party in Sgts. Mess for departing CGE staff.

29 Dec 54

Wednesday – Mr. Miller and Mr. DeWitt arrived – Bell Telephone. Clear and cold. Farewell party in Airwomen’s quarters for Cpl. Gorkhe. CGE staff left.

30 Dec 54

Thursday – Mr. Miller and Mr. Dewitt departed. Bus left for Quebec City with New Years leave passengers. Very heavy snowfall. Cold and windy.

Friday – Not too cold today. Everyone looking forward to the big dance. Party in Officers Mess very good. Everyone enjoyed Rec. Hall dance, which went off very well. Stocktaking at the bars this am.

Saturday – Nice cool day. "Snow Bowl" game between Officers and NCO’s was very good. NCO’s won 10 – 0. A lot of excitement. Hoped for New Year’s baby (Gordon) but event didn’t take place.

Sunday – Not too cold today. Sgt. Gordon proud father of 8 pound boy.

Monday – Beautiful day today. Four civilians from Canadian Aviation Electronics arrived for approximately three weeks. Bus left after lunch for Quebec to pick up remaining personnel coming off New Year’s leave. FS Desjardins returned from sick leave.

Tuesday – Bus arrived from Quebec City at 0400 hours. CO’s Conference held during the morning. Cold, clear day. Station very quiet after festive season.

5 Jan 55

Wednesday – Temperature dropped to 2 below during the early morning. Crisp cold day – clear. A lot of the children making the best of their holiday on the ski hill. F/L MacLeod on TD to AA School at Picton, Ont.

Thursday – Temperature down below zero during the night. Cloudy day. Protestant children back to school. G/C Willis forced to cancel visit because of weather at Bagotville.

Friday – CO’s Inspection. Dull day, quite cold, occasional snow showers – G/C Willis still unable to come due to weather.

8 Jan 55

Saturday – Clear day, became overcast during the evening with a few snow showers. CO and members of Officers Mess Committee spent the afternoon building a toboggan run on the CO’s hill. A very successful toboggan party was held during the evening by members of the Officers Mess as a farewell party for F/O Keenan Med/Nurse (Chatham) and F/O Gustafson – SAO – (Hamilton). F/L Thompson (P) Padre, arrived from ADC. Snow blower used to clear about 2 feet of snow off the rink.

Sunday – Protestant church service held – only 12 people attending. Cold and clear. No barber this weekend because of lack of transport. F/O Kinaird, F/O Trembley, Reserve Controllers from 2452 Squadron reported in for 18 days TD.

10 Jan 55

Monday – Cold and clear today. Mr. McEwan TCHQ Rec. Advisor and F/O Wheeler arrived by helicopter from Bagotville for survey of recreational facilities. CO and CAdO in conference all afternoon with ADC Rec. Survey team. Capt. Vielleux, Dental Officer, arrived from Bagotville for ten days. FS Desjardins, SWO, back from month in hospital and month sick leave.

Tuesday – Cold clear day. CO’s conference. F/O McCrank, AS/FtrC, in on TD for five days from Ste. Marie. FS Liautaud in from ADC to become NCO i/c FtrCops.

12 Jan 55

Wednesday – Clear cold day – Pay day. Helicopter arrived from Bagotville with G/C Newson, CO Bagotville and S/L Carson, OC of 440 Squadron, Bagotville. Mr. Louthhood of Winter Roads Association, Mr. Gaunce of Price Brothers arrived by car – luncheon in the Mess. COpsO, F/L Legare, took G/C Newson and S/L Carson to the Tower. CO, CTechO, CEO in conference with Mr. Louthhood and Mr. Gaunce concerning the road to the north. Helicopter took G/C Newson and S/L Carson, F/O Wheeler and Mr. McEwan back to Bagotville. F/O Gustafson left on TD to Hamilton. Basketball team went over to Kenogami for a game.

13 Jan 55

Thursday – Cold day – cloudy with a few sunny intervals. All the F/O’s doing last minute cramming for qualifying exams. Piasecki helicopter came in for the first time; brought F/L Raymond RC Padre, Bagotville. Station farewell party in Rec. Hall for A/Cpl McNeil, A/Cpl McClennan AW posted overseas.

Friday – Cold day – windy and cloudy. Occasional showers. CO’s inspection. Sgt. Holmgren of Hospital Staff left on transfer to Foymount. A/Cpl. Paradis acting SWO left finally after 4 months delay for St. Johns. Two helicopters in from Bagotville to take F/O McKillop and AW to 108 Com Flight, Bagotville party.

Saturday – Snowing off and on most of the day. F/O Keenan left on transfer to Chatham. F/O Della Stua back off leave and TD to Clinton. – Barber well patronized this weekend. Helicopter brought girls back.

Sunday – Snowed all day. F/Os writing exams taking last plunge into the books.

Monday – Light snow most of the day. Personnel used the Station rink for the first skating of the season. P/O Favre-Crois back off TD to Bagotville.

Tuesday – Clear cold day. CO on TD to Quebec City for conference with G/C Carling Kelly of #1 Group (A) HQ, Montreal. F/O Seguin, AS/FtrC, in on TD for a month for contact training – attached to 2452 Squadron, Quebec City.

19 Jan 55

Wednesday – Light snow showers during the day. CO returned to the Unit from Quebec during the afternoon. F/O Sands, new Accountant Officer, reported in from Station Edgar.

20 Jan 55

Thursday – Cold with light snow showers. Accommodation problem for airmen becoming extremely critical. Overflow put into NCO’s quarters.

21 Jan 55

Friday – Cold day – overcast. A farewell party held in the Airwomen’s Lounge by the Accounts Section for F/O Gustafson, SAO, who leaves for Hamilton. 35 personnel, including 20 officers, from 2452 Squadron reported in from Quebec City for weekend training. F/L Thompson, ADC Padre, arrived by helicopter from Bagotville. F/O Campbell, Adjutant, left on leave to the west.

Saturday – Cold day – clear. F/O Gustafson left on transfer to Station Hamilton.

Sunday – Clear cold day. F/O Taylor, Air/P, left on TD to 1 AM Toronto for a week. F/O MacLeod returned from Picton, Ont. AA Course.

Monday – Cloudy with some snow showers. F/L Thompson (P) Padre returned to ADCHQ. Conference of Section Heads to discuss 1956-57 estimate for new construction.

Clear cold day. Temperature dropping below zero during the night. CO’s conference. Monthly Station Fund Meeting.

Wednesday – Clear cold again today – pay day. F/O Sands left after pay day on TD to Station Edgar. Basketball team to Kenogami to play Chicoutimi.

Thursday – Cold – cold. Temperature down to 35 below zero during the night – rose to 15 degrees below during day.

Friday – Very cold and clear. Temperature down to 40 degrees below during the night – only up to 20 degrees during the day. Cpls. Club held farewell party for A/Cpl McNeil and A/Cpl McLennan, FtrCops, who are proceeding overseas. F/L Raymond Padre (RC) over from Bagotville. Mess Meeting in the Officers Mess.

Saturday – Very cold and clear. Temperature still well below zero. F/O Crowther’s wife gave birth to a son in the station hospital. 17th baby delivered on the unit. F/O Taylor returned from 1 AM Toronto. Mr. Northover from AFHQ in to discuss sites for new PMQs.

Sunday – Still cold but clear – F/O Sands, SAO returned from Station Edgar.

Monday – Still cold but appears to be moderating. F/L Legare (COpsO) and F/L Craig (ComO) begin writing their promotion or qualifying exams. S/L St. Louis presiding officer. F/O Brown, AS/FtrC, reported in from London Ontario.

1 Feb 55

Tuesday – Considerably milder with a few snow flurries. CO’s conference held during the afternoon. F/L Qualifying exams continuing

Wednesday – Clear say, fairly mild. F/L Southwood (Med Officer) Parent came in by helicopter. He will replace F/L Bending, who is going on TD for a course at Camp Borden.

3 Feb 55

Thursday – Clear day, became overcast briefly during the afternoon. F/L Qualifying exams continued. Station being cleaned up for visit of AFHQ Staff Officers. Farewell party held in Sgts. Mess for Sgt. Rivest F of W who is returning to North Bay, and Mr. Hargrave.

4 Feb 55

Friday – A/C Greenway, G/C McKinnon, G/C Sharp, W/C Gordon (ADC) and F/L Francis arrived by helicopter from Bagotville. These officers are Staff Officers from AFHQ Personnel Branch. Program for the day, short tour of townsite, conference, luncheon, conference continued, tour of tower site. Helicopter was landed at the tower to pick the visitors up and return them to Bagotville. A small fire destroyed the drapes in the AW Lounge in their barrack block approximately 1900 hours.

5 Feb 55

Saturday – Clear and cool. Dining-In Night held in Officers Mess, to say farewell to F/O MacLeod and F/O Taylor. F/O MacLeod is transferred to 5 ADCC – Vancouver, and F/O Taylor back to flying starting with a refresher course at Centralia. F/L Hill and 7 officers paid a visit from 2452 Squadron, Quebec City for the weekend. F/L Bending, SMO, left on TD to Camp Borden. Basketball team played a home game with Kenogami.

6 Feb 55

Sunday – Light snow showers began during the early morning. Mild. Bagotville hockey team played a game against our station team on the outdoor rink. First game of the season.

7 Feb 55

Monday – Cold and clear. Staff College exams presided over by W/C Marcou, CO, written by S/L St. Louis and F/L Southwood. Small bus coming down from the tower at 0845 glanced off FWD snow plow and caused $2,000.00 damage to Guardhouse on the Tower Road.

8 Feb 55

Tuesday – Cold and clear. CO’s Conference held during am. F/L Legare and F/O Della Stua left on TD to 1 ADCC Lac St. Denis. A conference was held during the afternoon to discuss the Black Fly situation during the coming summer and the steps to be taken to combat same. Became very mild during the afternoon with some melting.

9 Feb 55

Wednesday – Cold and clear. Approximately 20 below during the night. G/C Gwinn, S/L Richards, F/O Woodruff, all Staff Tel Com from ADC and F/O Gordon ADC Welfare Officer came in for a visit via helicopter from Bagotville. A gathering of station officers entertained the guests during the evening.

10 Feb 55

Thursday – Cool and cloudy with occasional snow showers. G/C Gwinn and the other officers departed by staff car for Bagotville. Weather restricted use of helicopter.

11 Feb 55

Friday – Severe blizzard, very cold. F/L Thompson (P) Padre arrived.

Saturday – High winds, snow drifting all day, but clear.

Sunday – F/L Southwood departed. Cleared about noon, quite cold. Sunday school and church service. CEO left for Command Conference.

Monday – Cold clear day. Uneventful.

Tuesday – F/L Bending, MO reported back from TD. Capt. Dufresne, RCDC arrived for the day and departed for Bagotville by helicopter. Captain Dufresne, new dentist for station. Clear and cold. Housewarming party in Airmen’s Canteen in celebration of redecorating. Very successful.

Wednesday – Warm, sunny day. F/L Selby and F/L Boychuk arrived for the day by PMC from 1 ADCC, for visit to the tower. Cake sale at Rec. Hall.

Thursday – Mild, sunny day. Mr. Guile and Mr. DeWitt from Bell Telephone Company here today.

18 Feb 55

Friday – Cloudy and mild. Mr. Guile and Mr. DeWitt departed – SOR held a farewell party for LAW Gallant and LAW Chorney.

19 Feb 55

Saturday – Winter Carnival, including skiing, tobogganing competitions, basketball game with Bagotville, broomball game. Station dance at night, with orchestra from Quebec City. King and Queen crowned – King LAC E Laviolette, Queen – LAW Hubner. Whole day highly successful.

Sunday – Warmest day this winter. Sunny and very mild, with some people sitting out on their verandas. Lots of cars out.

21 Feb 55

Monday – Mild, cloudy day. Opening of new Bowling League for second term. F/O Campbell, Adjutant, bowled first ball.

Tuesday – Mild day with snow thawing. Some of the CGE departed.

23 Feb 55

Wednesday – Snowing continually. Radio Station Mont Apica started – MARS – Requests for recordings and dedications played.

Thursday – Snowed all morning, clearing in the afternoon with sun coming out.

Friday – Brilliant sunshine. Padre Thompson arrived by helicopter. Men’s basketball team from Bagotville played here. Great mounds of snow.

Saturday – A nice sunny day, mild. Officers Mess has sleigh ride party – turned out well (outside of getting stuck in deep snow). Hard times dance in Airmen’s Canteen – "Come as you are" party in Sergeants Mess. Good night all over the station. Basketball team played Bagotville again. Padre Thompson returned to Bagotville – Padre Archer (P) Chaplain of Bagotville came in for service Sunday.

Sunday – All quiet today. Church services held. Weather fair and mild.

Monday – Mild again – snow showers. Capt. Dufresne (Dentist) reported in for the week. Mr. W Patterson, RCA Victor, reported in for a few days.

Tuesday – Heavy snowfall all day and windy. Travelling conditions poor. Adjutant departed for Lac St. Denis on TD.

Wednesday – Heavy snowfall and windy, with large drifts forming. NHL Playoffs – Stanley Cup – 1954 shown at free show in station theatre.

Thursday – Clear, cold day. Broomball practice by Officers for game with Sergeants on Saturday. Bowling alleys, theatre well patronized.

Friday – Going away party for five tower personnel – airwomen; was held in Airmen’s Canteen. Large turnout and enjoyed by all.

Saturday – Mild day. Broomball game between officers and sergeants – won by sergeants 1 – 0. Victors entertained in Officer’s Mess afterwards. Party in Airmen’s Canteen in the evening.

Sunday – Mild, fairly windy day. Officers and NCOs brought their families to dinner at their respective messes.

Monday – Sunny, blustery day. S/L Whiteford and F/O Williams, Accounts officers, reported in from ADCHQ. Meeting of Women’s Auxiliary with a sherry party afterwards.

Tuesday – Sunny and very windy. R. T Mercer from AFHQ arrived. CO’s conference and Unit Promotion for Officers held.

Wednesday – Cloudy and mild. Audit officers from Command departed. Mr. Mercer also departed. Bingo held during the evening. Hairdresser arrived on the Station for a three-day stay.

Thursday – Sunny and warm, quite windy. Padre Raymond arrived by helicopter from Bagotville. Mass offered in RC school at 5 o’clock.

Friday – Extremely bad weather. AFHQ band unable to arrive to play for dance in evening. Dance was held to records and was well attended. Girl’s basketball team from Lac St. Denis arrived. F/L Raymond left for Bagotville by snowmobile.

Saturday – Sunny, warm day. Girls basketball team from Lac St. Denis defeated out team 19 – 9. F/L Thompson, Protestant Chaplain, arrived to conduct service tomorrow.

Sunday – Cloudy with snow. Catholic and Protestant services held.

Monday – Sunny, mild day. S/L Rogers Command Chaplain arrived. Departed by helicopter later in the day with F/L Thompson.

Friday – Sunny and mild. Helicopter arrived with F/O Eaton, Ground Defence Officer for Bagotville, and photographer. Mess dinner held in Officers Mess.

Saturday – Sunny and cool. Reserves on station all day. Catholic padre from Levis arrived to offer Mass on Sunday morning.

Sunday – Cloudy and mild. Badminton tournament held in Rec. Hall with teams from Kenogami. Movie in Station Theatre this evening.

Monday – F/L Archer from Bagotville arrived by helicopter to start Protestant Mission. First edition of "Tower and Town" released (new management).

Tuesday – Stormy, high winds, drifting. Religious services conducted during the day in the Tower by F/L Archer and in Station Theatre, in the evening. CO, CAdO, CTechO, CEO and F/O MacLean departed on TD for Quebec.

Wednesday – Snowing all day. F/L Archer departed for Bagotville. Grey Cup film shown in theatre, proceeds being for the benefit of the Boy Scouts.

24 Mar 55

Thursday – Mild, snowing most of the day. CO and party returned from TD in Quebec. Father Raymond arrived by helicopter from Bagotville. Mass offered at five o’clock. Going away party for F/L Robinson, F/O Tate, F/O Campbell, AW1 Vachon, AW Evans and AW1 Hanson was held in the Rec. Hall as a combined party. Personnel from the whole station attending.

Friday – Snowing all day. Going away party, Bohemian style held in Officers Mess for F/L Robinson, RadO, F/O Campbell, Adjutant, F/O Tate, AS/FtrC, and Mr. Guy Cote of the Bell Telephone Company. Curling team departed for curling at Riverbend.

Saturday – Snowing with sunshine at intervals. Liberty run to Quebec City and ME run to Kenogami with Badminton Teams.

27 Mar 55

Sunday – Snowing most of the day. Protestant church services at be held at 3.30 in Station Theatre had to be cancelled at last minute due to conditions of roads. Catholic services at 4.45 in the school.

28 Mar 55

Monday – Snowing all day. Uneventful. Mess meeting held in Officers Mess to elect Bar Officer – F/O Gatz elected.

29 Mar 55

Tuesday – Snowing intermittently all day, clearing about three-thirty pm. Spring in the air, but not on the ground. Children’s Bowling Banquet held and trophies presented. Fathers served the dinner.

Wednesday – Sunny, spring like day. Children writing Easter examinations in schools. Bingo held in Rec. Hall in evening.

Thursday – Cloudy and slushy underfoot. Mess Meeting held in Officers Mess.

Friday – Sunny and mild. CO’s inspection held in the morning. Easter Fashion Show held in the Rec. Hall in the evening was very successful, with children taking part also. Record dance followed this show.

Miss Sadie Mansour in charge of gathering, and Mrs. Willert in charge of Brownies. Mud Bowl game held today between Officers and Senior NCOs. Officers won 15 – 1. Helicopter in from Bagotville and was used to land men and equipment to spray various lakes and streams in the area for black fly control. F/O Crowther in charge of this operation. Station dance held in Rec. Hall, which went off very well.

12 AC&W carried a flight of KC-97 aircraft through the area and gave assistance to one of them which was in slight trouble.
