The New Year’s Eve Dance was held in the Recreation Centre for all ranks. Following the dance, activities were held in the various Messes.

At 1430 hours the annual snow-ball game took place between the Officers and the Senior NCO’s. The Officers were victorious with a score of 6 – 1.

O’Keefe’s Brewery sponsored a mixed curling bonspiel and dart tournament at this station. This was followed by a station dance in the Recreation Centre, also sponsored by O’Keefe’s Brewery. The winning rink was skipped by Sgt. Rapin with Mrs. Rapin, FS and Mrs Winmill.

The Winter Carnival got underway this morning at 0900 hours when the Preliminary Ski Races for the children were held. The fireworks display was started at 1900 hours and at 2100 hours the torchlight parade started at the Ski Club and proceeded to the Recreation Hall. S/L G Inglis, the Acting CO, proclaimed LAW Marie Desrosiers Carnival Queen with LAWs Faye Ross and Gina Butler as attending Princesses. A sports dance was held in the Recreation Centre following the crowning of the Queen.

Carnival events today were Inter-Mess Curling and Badminton. F/L WH Trepanier from Bagotville reported in for three days TD for Ground Defence Training.

Bowling took place today in Carnival activities and a Monte Carlo and Bingo, sponsored by the Community Council, was held in the Recreation Centre in the evening.

The finals in the Children’s Skiing took place this morning and A/C Harvey presented the medallions to the children. Adult skiing and tobogganing took place in the afternoon. The Grande Finale was a formal dance held in the Recreation Centre. A/C Harvey was introduced to the Carnival Queen and the Princesses. The opening waltz was led by A/C Harvey and the Carnival Queen, LAW Marie Desrosiers. A/C Harvey presented the Winter Carnival Challenge Trophy to Cpl. Ken Zenter, who represented the Cpls. Club. The Vic Morrow Challenge Trophy for curling was presented to FS Gordon Dutton, representing the Senior NCO’s Mess.
