1998 - Moosonee Today - Paul Lantz

There is a large square building (perhaps five stories in height) and a couple of circular buildings remaining. Buildings such as the gymnasium and the swimming pool have been incorporated into the local high school. The former mess building is now vacant. The barracks were used until this year for high school students from Moose Factory during the freeze up and break up periods (they were flown home by helicopter for the week-ends). The base water plant is used by the town and about half of the houses at the base were removed to Moose Factory. Some of the remaining houses are used for high school staff housing. There were radomes and people remember them being decorated for Halloween to look like pumpkins. There is a road that runs out a mile or so from the base into the bush. It ends at the remains (just a slab) of a small building.
