    COMMENTARY

    Operations: No significant changes or problems.

    During the period 1 April through 30 June 1962, the Operations section gains and losses were as follows: Gains – Officers, 0; Airmen, 3; Losses – Officers, 1; Airmen, 19.

    Communications and Electronics:

    Gains – Officers, 1; Airmen, 9; Civilians 1; Losses – Officers, 1; Airmen, 8; Civilians, 1.

    Progression of the SAGE Annex continues as scheduled. The MCC (Maintenance Control Center) was separated from Radar Maintenance and is now located in the C&E office. Installation of equipment in the GATR building was scheduled for 1 June 1962 but to date this has not begun.

    Because of unknown interference on both height finders, depot level assistance was requested. Height-Finder "0" was corrected but HF "1" is requiring more work.

    The 15-J-1C and AN/GPS-T2 were overhauled by deport level maintenance on 20 May 1962.

    Power Plant:

    Gains and losses were as follows: Gains – Officers, 0; Airmen, 5; Losses – Officers, 0; Airmen, 4.

    Trouble was encountered with number two boiler (defective low water shutdown system). The Waterloo Manufacturing Company Representative corrected the trouble.

    Four diesel-generators, one from Sioux Lookout Air Station and three from Armstrong Air Station, were installed along with their switch gear and associated equipment. Heat recovery units have been incorporated in the exhaust system of all seven diesel engines. All newly installed equipment is in testing stage at this time and is expected to be operational within a month. In addition to the newly installed equipment, the existing fuel system for the diesels has been modified and equipped with meters that measure the fuel to the engine rather than to the day tanks.

    Supply:

    Gains and losses were as follows: Gains – Officers, 0; Airmen, 1; Losses – Officers, 0; Airmen, 2.

    Construction of bins and rearrangement of facilities started during the last reporting period has been completed. An audit was completed by the USAF Resident Auditors, Kinchloe AFB, Michigan, who commented that a great improvement was noted. The assistance staff visit by 4602nd Support Wing reported this section satisfactory in all areas.

    Personnel:

    During the period of 1 April through 30 June 1962, the squadron personnel gains and losses were as follows: Gains – Officers, 0; Airmen, 0; Losses – Officers, 0; Airmen, 0.

    Civil Engineering:

    Gains and losses were as follows: Gains – Officers, 0; Airmen, 4; Losses – Officers, 0; Airmen, 5.

    The contract for cleaning of the water and septic tanks was completed by "Davisson & Excell" and the "Montague Brothers". A new contract was let to the Heath Construction Company to repair and replace the tile flooring for the Airman’s Club, NCO Club, Officer’s Club, and Operations Building. A new refuse dump was constructed. The contract for repair of the base security fence is finalized and we’re awaiting arrival of the plans and drawings. The Airman’s Club was rebuilt and decorated by volunteer workers throughout. Repair of the Station roads was cancelled by 4602 Support Wing. A new dishwasher and range was installed in the Dining Hall kitchen. A new compressor unit was installed in the Dining Hall refrigerator. Supplies for the Graphic Arts section required the expenditure of $183.00.

    Motor Pool: No Significant changes or problems.

    Gains and losses were as follows: Gains – Officers, 0; Airmen, 2; Losses – Officers, 0; Airmen, 2.

    One Trackmaster vehicle, 10 passenger, was turned to 4602nd Support Wing as an overage.

    Security and Law Enforcement:

    Gains and losses were as follows: Gains – Officers, 1; Airmen, 3; Losses – Officers, 1; Airmen, 3.

    A/1C Robert C Agee, AF 11354474, was awarded the Air Defense Command Commendation Certificate. The 30th Air Division IG team rated this function as satisfactory. The internal gate (Gate #2) was determined to be unnecessary and is no longer manned.

    Food Service: No significant changes or problems.

    Gains and losses were as follows: Gains – Officers, 0; Airmen, 3; Losses – Officers, 0; Airmen, 3.

    The USAF Resident auditors from Kinchloe AFB, Michigan rated this facility "excellent", and the 4602nd Support Wing Staff Visit found Food Service to be "satisfactory".

    Traffic Management:

    Gains and losses were as follows: Gains – Officers, 0; Airmen, 1; Losses – Officers, 0; Airmen, 1.

    In accordance with AFM 75-1, the Traffic Management Agent visited the Carrier facilities at Hearst, Ontario, Canada. The Resident auditors from Kinchloe AFB, Michigan rated this section "satisfactory" as did the 4602ns Support Wing Staff visitors.

    Personnel and Administration:

    No gains or losses.

    All scheduled renovations and activities were completed as required.

    Results of the 30th Air Division IG visit gave an overall rating of "satisfactory".

    Change of Command ceremony was conducted. Major William W Scroggins, Jr., 38167A, assumed command of the squadron on 27 June 1962, vice Major John B McLaughlin, A0348242, relieved.
