APPENDIX "A" TO
HISTORICAL REPORT - 1963

4 Jun 63

A team of F/L Ling and FS Neuman came to accept the A05038 and A05049 consoles.

16 - 21 Jul 63

Summer Carnival was held.

18 - 20 Jul 63

Dr. Hunt (NRC) came for the solar eclipse and used Height Finder "A" for 3 days.

5 Aug 63

S/L WE MacWilliam Tech/Tel arrived to assume duties of CTSO.

21 Aug 63

A/V/M Hendricks AOC/ADC and his staff W/C Tugwell, W/C Riddell, F/L Guthrie and F/L Thorn visited and completely toured the unit.

29 Aug 63

SAGE system testing was completed.

3 Sep 63

F/L JAGG Labreche Air/RN arrived to assume duties of CAdO.

20-21 Sep 63

Major Hissom, Lt. Davis and Mr. Ewasko visited unit to ATR evaluation during Big Blast K.

1 Oct 63

Station Parent became fully operational as part of the SAGE system (Ottawa Sector) after operating for 30 days on a trial basis under manual back-up conditions.

2 Dec 63

The new Telecommunications organization of CGEO, STelOO and SCOO was instituted to replace CTSO and STelO positions.

3 - 5 Dec 63

A Nuclear Defence specialist team of 3 men from Station North Bay, improved the nuclear defence posture of this unit by giving a 3 day course on radiation monitoring and fallout detection and decontamination to 15 airmen and NCOs.

 

 

APPENDIX "B" TO
HISTORICAL REPORT - 1963

Historical Summary
RCAF Station Parent
1 Jan 63 to 31 Dec 63

During 1963 the station became part of the NORAD SAGE system. It has been fully operational as a SAGE radar squadron since 1 Oct 63.
The resultant organization and change in establishment was accomplished in stages, without any detrimental affect on the operational efficiency of Station Parent.
A/V/M Hendricks arrived on 21 Aug on his annual inspection tour. He was favorably impressed.
The summer carnival was held successfully during the week of July 16-21.
