13 Jan 64

Dental Team from Camp Chilliwack arrived to carry out a unit check of all personnel. Team consisted of Captain B Willcock and Sgt. J MacDougall.

14 Jan 64

F/L CG Maxwell of (SCESO-ADCHQ) carried out a staff visit.

15 Jan 64

Personnel from Western Electric Company and Burroughs arrived to commence SAGE testing.

23 Jan 64

Lt. R Davidson (RCPC Edmonton) carried out a unit Postal Inspection. F/O J Thompson and WO2 TR McQuat of STSO/SOMSE - ADCHQ arrived to carry out a staff MSE inspection.

Officers Mess entertained at a Mess Dinner. Commanding Officers and two other officers from Stations Baldy Hughes and Kamloops attended.

Miss MA Brown from CPO staff, Station Comox, arrived on TD as replacement for Mr. T Jefferson who is on sick leave.

Commanding Officer, W/C FD Avent commenced 30 days annual leave. F/L WC Short, acting CO during his absence. Operation SAGE testing programme is progressing satisfactorily.

11 Feb 64

S/L Williams, F/L Winslow and a party of seven from Seattle NORAD Sector arrived by air to conduct a familiarization visit. Unit Otter aircraft carried out an emergency airlift to Williams Lake with a P&T logger who had a suspected broken back. A flare path was laid for the return flight.

17 Feb 64

Otter aircraft departed for Vancouver for periodic inspection. Was delayed two days in Princeton on account of poor weather conditions.

27 Feb 64

S/L BR Biddiscombe and a party of four officers and five NCO’s from (SOCE-ADCHQ) arrived to carry out a staff visit.

28 Feb 64

A Mess Dinner was held at Station Kamloops in conjunction with the BC Radar Sites CO’s conference.

Otter aircraft arrived back on unit following completion of periodic inspection at Station Vancouver.

W/C FD Avent, CO, returned to unit following annual leave.

S/L Paradis - RC Padre, Station Vancouver arrived for a three day liaison visit.

12 Mar 64

RCMP, Alexis Creek, requested unit assistance in the recovery of the bodies of two BC Department of Highway personnel who had died at the radio relay site some 15 miles west of this station.

Miss Brown, who was filling in as CPO returned to Station Comox. F/L GH Elvidge returned to his parent unit, Station Kamloops, following completion of period of TD as Fighter Controller.

F/L CF Crosson and Sgt. JC Dupras (SOSUP-ADCHQ) arrived to carry out a staff inspection.

F/L GR Wonnacott (SOPA-ADCHQ) arrived to carry out an M&I inspection. Approximately one inch of snow fell in Operations area.

7 May 64

Department of Indian Affairs at Williams Lake requested assistance in evacuating a seriously injured Indian from Anahim Reserve. An ME vehicle and a Medical Assistant were dispatched to the reserve. The unit Otter aircraft later intercepted the vehicle at Kleena Kleene and completed the mercy mission to Williams Lake.

10 May 64

RCMP, Alexis Creek, requested assistance in evacuating the body of a civilian pilot who had crashed at the Home Ranch. The Otter aircraft proceeded to the ranch, picked up the body, and delivered it to the RCMP at Quesnel.

11 May 64

F/O Stratychuk, SLogO designate, reported in from COS Centralia.

12 May 64

DOT Vancouver requested unit Otter aircraft to proceed to Home Ranch to ascertain if their Beaver aircraft was there as it had not reported as required. Otter aircraft proceeded to the ranch and found Beaver aircraft had suffered damage to a wheel-float on landing. One of the crew was evacuated to Puntzi.

F/L Emon, CAdO designate, arrived on transfer from 404 (MP) Squadron, Greenwood. LAC Knox, Station Santa Claus, entertained local Indian children at the Redstone Rancherie Christmas Party. One Indian family rode 23 miles on horseback in sub-zero temperatures to attend.

Station thermometer registered 56 degrees below zero last night.

19 Dec 64

Again, Cpl. Knox entertained. This time the station dependent children had their Christmas Party in the Airmen’s Club. An excellent all-round effort on the part of the club members.
