Overhaul of heating systems in Officers Quarters was carried out, including replacement of thermostatic valves on all radiators. Also, during this period the floor type radiators in the CE and Supply Sections and the Station Chapel were replaced with wall fin type. The Fire Hall, MSE Section and Pumphouse were re-roofed.

Two URTP F/Cs reported in June for Summer Employment. F/C J Dalgleish Tech/CE who worked in the CE Section and F/C R Meldrum Pers/Adm. who was employed in SOR.

All unknown tracks during this period were subsequently identified by the Operations Section.

S/L RD Forbes-Roberts, CO, promoted to Acting Wing Commander (while so employed).

24 Jul 62

The new AN/FPS-26A Radar equipment arrived and was unloaded.

27 Jul 62

RCAF Bus service to transport day-shift personnel to duty, between Kirkland Lake and the Station, commenced.

8 Aug 62

The Station Fire Truck answered a call to a fire in a house in Ramore and extinguished the blaze.

9 Aug 62

Exercise Apache Jewel was carried out.

10 Aug 62

Installation party from Canadian General Electric arrived to complete the AN/FPS-26A radar installation.

15 Aug 62

F/O J Jette Tech/Tel, STelO was released.

17 Aug 62

Complete Bus Service was inaugurated providing transportation for personnel to and from Kirkland Lake seven days per week and three shifts per day.

Exercise Sky Shield III was carried out.

S/L Radcliffe, CO designate for Station Sioux Lookout, visited the Station for radar and operations familiarization.

14 Sep 62

Operations Section provided information to lost civilian aircraft enabling it to land safely at Timmins airport.

16 Sep 62

Station Ramore was invited by Branch 87 Royal Canadian Legion, Kirkland Lake, to participate in the parade and ceremonies marking the dedication of their new cenotaph. As this date was Battle of Britain Sunday, the significance of this day was featured. An RCAF Squadron consisting of three flights in command of F/L RW Kaye took part. The CO, W/C Forbes-Roberts, took the salute for the march past at the cenotaph. Two T33 aircraft from Station North Bay flew over the cenotaph in an aerial salute.

17 Sep to 21 Sep 62

W/C Nault, CO Station Moosonee, also visited the Station for radar and operations familiarization.

22 Sep 62

Station Ramore’s first Air Force Day was held. (Programme attached as Annex I) Fifteen hundred people visited the Station and viewed the air show and static displays. Many also took the tour through the Operations site. Social functions were held in the messes. The weather was good and the crowd appeared to have enjoyed the day thoroughly. A very successful show.

Only one airman was promoted in the 1 Oct 62 promotion list – 40336 LAC A Belzile MSEOp 3A to the rank of Corporal. The CAdO position was deleted from the establishment effective this date and the PAdO position was amended F/L vice F/O.

135113 F/O AL Mayhew, SCEO, commenced release leave.

9 Oct 62

The Station Fire Truck responded to a call to extinguish a fire in a house in Ramore but fir had progressed too far to save the building.

1 Nov 62

Test equipment calibration for SAGE testing was completed.

5 Nov 62

50526 F/O SP Kolomyjec Tech/CE reported to replace F/O Mayhew as SCEO.

7 Nov 62

Another call for the Station Fire Department was received from Ramore but fire had gained too much headway and house was destroyed.

9 Nov 62

Fire call received from Ramore but fire was out when fire truck arrived.

11 Nov 62

A flight of airmen took part in the Royal Canadian Legion’s Remembrance Day parade and ceremonies in Kirkland Lake. The CO participated in a Remembrance Day cenotaph service in Matheson, followed by a special service in the Anglican Church. The Minister of this church, Reverend JH Walsh, is the Station’s officiating clergyman (Protestant).
