    The mission of the 915th Squadron (ADC) is to provide Radar Surveillance Control capability and identification for the Area of Responsibility outlined in 31st NORAD Reg 24-1, and forward tell all information to the 756th AC&W Squadron, and to conduct the training required for the accomplishment of this mission.

    COMMENTARY

    On approximately 20 May 1959, the AN/GPA-27 modification to the AN/FPS-3 was completed. The modification changed our prime radar to an AN/FPS-20A configuration. One of the primary areas of interest on the part of all concerned was the training requirements for all personnel for the new equipment. A Bendix Technical Representative was asked for and received. Prior to this, a special training program had been in effect utilizing augmentation personnel assigned from CAE. These actions helped to counter the tremendous training program that existed when the new equipments was placed into operation.

    During the period of this report the Maintenance Control Center at this Squadron came into being. At the request of the Duluth ADS, MCC reporting procedures were adapted, first by using Radar Maintenance as the Central point, then by pulling NCO’s from the different sub-sections under C&E and forming an MCC as such. Since the NCO’s concerned normally maintained the records within the sub-sections under TO 31-1-10, it was also necessary to consolidate the records of all C&E equipment and the MCC has the function, not only of status reporting and maintenance scheduling, but of maintenance expedition as well.

    During the reporting period the C&E section was seriously hampered by loss of personnel through rotation stateside. This problem added to the training problem and increasing maintenance and reporting responsibilities. MCC is a new organization and personnel for manning it had to come from within present authorizations which has necessitated several personnel shifts within the C&E section to the detriment of maintenance effectiveness.
