Command Section:

Personnel – Major Henry Kolb, Commander, was promoted to Lt. Colonel effective on 20 Nov 1967. This promotion was preceded by a formal ceremony honoring this announcement on 3 Nov 1957 at St. Anthony Airport on the commander’s return from TDY.

1^st Lt. Jerry D Truitt replaced Captain Walter Stephenson as Ground CEM Officer. 1^st Lt. Truitt was promoted to Captain on 15 Nov 1967. Captain Truitt received AFCM on 15 Dec 67.

2^nd Lt. Martin C Driggers, Operations Officer, was promoted to 1^st Lt. On 4 Nov 1967.

1^st Lt. Jack H Leonhardt, Personnel Officer, was notified on a correction to his records. He has now been designated a Distinguished Military Graduate by AFROTC.

Outgoing personnel – A/1C Thomas Myrick and Airman Charles Mercer.

Events – A formation of 30 personnel participated in an Armistice Day Parade on 12 Nov 1967.

Thanksgiving Dinner was held for all Officers, NCO’s, Airmen and invited guests on 23 Nov 1967. About 200 people were in attendance.

Lt. Colonel Kolb, Commander, departed on leave on 12 Dec 67 and command of the squadron was assumed by Captain Charles J Garbarino, Supply Officer.

1^st Air Force IG Report was terminated on 20 Dec 1967.

Many military personnel participated in a Christmas children’s parade in St. Anthony on 23 Dec 1967.

Commanders Call was held on 27 Oct, 24 Nov, and 15 Dec 1967. Information topics, fire protection and films were presented.

Civil Engineering:

Project/Contract Activities – None.

Mobile Maintenance Team Activity – Work Orders completed were:

Power Plant – Top overhaul was completed on fire engines. All Preventative Maintenance and repairs were accomplished.

Heating Plant – All Preventative Maintenance and Repairs accomplished. No. 2 Boiler was given internal and external inspection by CMC boiler inspector and was found in good condition.

Preventative Maintenance Shop – All Preventative Maintenance and Repairs were accomplished.

Fire Prevention/Protection – All buildings were inspected, all manual and automatic alarms were tested. Fire extinguishers were inspected and found in good order. Meetings by Fire Marshals Council, Area Fire Marshals, and Fire Wardens were conducted. Fire fighting teams training were conducted. Fire drills were conducted during this period.

Transportation:

Motor Pool – Vehicles were driven a total of 6,455 miles with a consumption of 1,074 gallons of gas for an average of 6.0 miles per gallon. Construction and material handling equipment operated 312 hours with a consumption of 610 gallons of fuel for an average of 1.9 hours per gallon.

Vehicles Deadlined this Period – Since 25 November Ambulance has been out of commission awaiting rear differential. Received Depot overhaul – one TD 20 engine, one auxiliary engine for snowblower. Section having difficulty obtaining spare parts.

Commercial Transportation – Air/Ground transportation went smoothly during the quarter considering quite a lot of bad weather was involved. Heavy snow storms caused a few flights to be delayed, but no major difficulties were experienced. During this quarter Eastern Provincial Airways flew 24 round trips between Goose Air Base and St. Anthony Air Station. They transported the following loads:

Disaster Preparedness – Lt. Morris, Lt. Leonhardt and S/Sgt. Markham attended a course in Disaster Preparedness Training at 37 Air Division.

Personnel Changes – Lost: A/1C Jimmy Hairsten

Communications/Electronics:

Major Accomplishments – The FRT-503 was removed and shipped IAW disposition instructions. Managing documentation error rate below .05%. Local repair in successfully replacing oil seals in Gear Reduction Assembly of the AN/FPS-93A to eliminate a severe oil leak. Procurement of six pairs of rubber gloves to initiate prescribed safety inspections. Maintaining a base self-sufficiency rate of 100%.

Inspections and Staff Visits – The 37AD Quality Control Inspection Team visited the CEM complex 4 through 8 December 1967.

Programming Data – Work is progressing in moving all Ground/Air Radios from their present location to the AN/FPS-6 Tower. Estimated completion date is March 1968.

Problems – (a) Some difficulty is being experienced in procuring tools and test equipment for Radio Maintenance. (b) Identifying and procuring tools for Range Height Indicators and the AN/UPX-14. (c) TACAN monitoring cable inoperative due to lack of proper cable and skilled personnel to install aerial cable. The temporary battlefield wire installed in September 1967 did not survive the winter season elements as anticipated, and it became necessary to request emergency technical assistance on 13 Dec 67. Canadian Marconi Company did not have proper cable on hand at time of emergency maintenance assistance request. Battlefield wire was provided by 1932^nd Comm Squadron, and once again a temporary fix was successfully completed on 18 Dec 67.

Operations:

Major Accomplishments – Operational Procedures were revised to allow more efficient operation as an NSS with minimum manning.

Reports – RCS 16. Other 16.

Personnel – Authorized 21. Assigned 19.

Training – Proficiency Training – Sgt. Gaffaney, Sgt. Feiock. OJT – S/Sgt. Bridge, A/1C Chauvin, A/1C Burzinski, A/1C Hayes; three airmen were upgraded during this period. No one is on OJT at this time.

Outgoing – S/Sgt. Bridge, T/Sgt. Broyan, A/1C Burzinski, S/Sgt. Deluna, Sgt. Gambrel, A/1C Hayes, Sgt. Leach, A/1C Schultheis, S/Sgt. Stewart.

Incoming – Sgt. Feiock, Sgt. Gaffaney.

TDY – None.

Supply:

1968-69 "Pacer Pine" requirements were compiled during November 1967. This entailed research and submission of approximately 400 line items.

Property reported to Redistribution and Marketing during 1967 was sold by Crown Assets Disposal Corporation and released by 921^st AC&W Squadron during November and December. This included 700 empty Drums, Electronic Equipment and Dining Hall Equipment.

All equipment type items were inventoried during October and a recount was conducted in December using labels that were received from HQ 95^th CES Group.

The Office in Unit Supply was repaired and repainted during this report period together with general house cleaning.
