    Section II

    COMMENTARY

    Command Section:

    Personnel –

    Lt. Colonel Henry Kolb, Commander, departed PCS on 20 Jun 68 for reassignment to Germany.

    1st Lt. Martin S Driggers, Operations Officer, departed PCS on 24 May 68 for reassignment to Iceland.

    1st Lt. Jack H Leonhardt, Personnel Officer, departed PCS on 27 Jun 68 for reassignment to 34th Air Div CBPO.

    Captain Jerry D Truitt, CEM officer, assumed command on 20 Jun 68 and will remain along with Captain Richard A Morris, Civil Engineering Officer, until all ADC assets and unnecessary equipment are removed later this fall.

    Captain Patrick M Bresnahan, Supply Officer, departs 1 Jul 68 for TDY to Hopedale AS, Labrador, for conducting closeout procedure.

    Events –

    Deactivation progress continued at excellent rate and Terminal IG Report on 7-10 Jun 68 indicated phaseout was being completed in excellent manner.

    There were Staff visits from 37th Air Div agencies throughout the quarter.

    Brigadier General Robert Miller, Chief of Logistics, Canadian Armed Forces, inspected the local St. Anthony Air Cadet Squadron on 26 May 68 and a special reception was held afterwards in the 921st Officers Open Mess.

    Lt. Colonel Kolb, Commander, attended the official opening of the Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, Newfoundland on 31 May 68 as guest of Premier Joey Smallwood.

    All Nonappropriated fund activities including open messes were closed on 31 May 68.

    Communications-Electronics:

    Major Accomplishments -

    The 37th Air Division Quarterly Maintenance Achievement award was awarded to this squadron for the period 1 Jan through 31 Mar 68. This was the second consecutive quarter that this sward was gained by the 921st.

    All de-cabling was accomplished by personnel from this Squadron, including tagging, packing, etc. in a manner which drew complimentary comments for outstanding performance from the GEEIA team on its subsequent visit.

    A team from Eastern GEEIA region was on site to dismantle and remove the radar equipment and radomes.

    Part of the electronic equipment has been shipped out; the balance is ready for the anticipated Packing Team.

    All test equipment has been shipped.

    A team from 95th Strat. Wing re-located the switchboard and PA system.

    A Mobile maintenance team re-located the fire detector system.

    Problem Areas – No significant problems were encountered during this period.

    Station Support (MSS):

    Operations EMO account was inventoried and items removed to a holding area.

    Scopes, T2 Trainers and other supporting radar equipment was crated and shipped out.

    Officials of Canadian Marconi Company visited the site to determine their equipment needs. Consolidated listing was furnished 95th Strat. Wing, Goose Base Hospital and 37th ADIV of their needs.

    Mr. Stokes of AFLC visited the site to determine packing and crating requirements. The list given us was called in to Goose Bay Supply on priority 5. Enough lumber, including plywood was on hand. Some of the items ordered have been received.

    Disposition of Test Equipment was received. C&E initiated AF Form 601B’s and items were received in Supply. All items were packed and shipped over a 2 ½ week period.

    Disposition of Weapons and Ammunition was received. All weapons have been inventoried but not shipped.

    Representative of Goose AB Veterinary Section arrived and inspected all foods on site. All items declared unfit are being destroyed.

    Consolidated listings arrived from EMO listing all items to be retained by CMC and those items to be shipped by the Air Force. A complete wall to wall inventory is being conducted before transfer to ensure that all property is in place.

    Civil Engineering:

    In accordance with ADC PAD 68-4 activities were held to a minimum.

    Transportation:

    Motor Pool – Motor Pool vehicles were driven a total of 7,146 miles with a consumption of 1,242 gallons of gas for an average of 5.07 miles per gallon. Construction and material handling equipment operated 360 hours with a consumption of 625 gallons of fuel for an average of 1.7 gallons per hour.

    Commercial Transportation – Air/Ground Transportation went smooth during this quarter with only minor aircraft delays due to weather conditions. Eastern Provincial Airways flew 25 round trips between Goose AB and St. Anthony AS. They transported the following loads:
