MEMORANDUM

18 July, 1955

ASR/SR4-2

Siting 1955-56 Construction Programme
# 13 AC&W Squadron, Ste. Marie, PQ

1. - The attached print (Drawing #S66-1-1001-1A, Revision 10) shows recommendations for the proposed locations of structures included in the a/n programme as follows:

    1. Administration Building, #16
    2. Chapel Building, #17
    3. Stage II of Rec. Hall, Swimming Pool Extension, Building #8
    4. 1-Bay Fire Hall, Building #60
    5. 7-Bay ME Extension, Building #18
  1. Administration Building #16
    1. The building would be located with the major axis in E/W direction at a clear distance of 340 feet NE from the Unit Maintenance, Building #6, on the opposite side of the main road.
    2. The site is in the domestic area and is equidistant from the opposite area and the main gate. It is convenient to the Quarters and PMQ area.
    3. The building orientation is correct, and parking space can be economically developed.
    4. A 600 feet steam extension is required. The estimated cost is $29,000.00. This main would also serve the Fire Hall.
    5. Water and sewer mains are within 150 feet of the site and are of adequate capacity.
    6. A Quonset hut, 80’ x 40’ in plan must be removed from the site. This hut is used for temporary storage purposes.
    7. The site is preferred by the Unit and Command, but they have suggested that the building be rotated counterclockwise 90 degrees in order to have a N/S orientation. This orientation would take advantage of the favorable ground contours and natural tree cover.
    8. The exact siting of this building cannot be determined until a topographical survey has been made. The advisability of siting this building on the opposite side of the access road should also be considered on completion of the topographical survey.
  1. Chapel, Building #17
    1. The building is situated with the major axis in a N/S direction, at 110 feet clear distance westerly from PMQ #3 on the opposite side of the street.
    2. This is a central location equidistant from the Quarters and PMQ areas.
    3. Water and sewerage services are adjacent to site and are of ample supply.
    4. The building would be heated by a separate heating unit.
    5. The location is concurred in by the Unit and Command.
  1. Stage II of Rec. Hall, Swimming Pool Extension, Building #8
    1. The site is sand and gravel fill, and slopes to the east. Extra fill is required at eastern edge of site.
    2. The site is satisfactory to the Unit and Command.
  1. 1-Bay Fire Hall, Building #60
    1. The site is located 250 feet clear distance north of the Unit Maintenance, Building #6. The site is equidistant from the Operations Area and the Main Gate, and it is in the domestic area.
    2. Water and sewerage utilities are within 50 feet of site, and are of adequate capacity.
    3. The site is 500 feet from the ME area.
    4. The steam main serving the proposed Administration Building site will be within fifty feet and is of adequate capacity.
    5. This site is now occupied by a two-story frame building, 100’ x 70’ T-shaped plan. This structure was used for a contractor’s mess and must be removed from site.
    6. The site is concurred in by the Unit and Command.
  1. 7-Bay ME Extension, Building #18
    1. The building would be situated with the major axis in E/W direction, at a clear distance of 100 feet westerly from the Central Heating Plant, Building #50.
    2. The site is in the ME area and parking space can be economically developed.
    3. The water and sewerage mains are within 50 feet of site and are of adequate supply.
    4. The steam supply will require 150 feet of main at an estimated cost of $7,500.00.
    5. The site is low and will require extra fill. It encroaches upon the Rec. field but the building location has been chosen to minimize interference.
    6. This location is concurred in by the Unit and Command.
  1. It is to be noted that Construction Costs would be reduced if the a/n structures were built as a package unit.
  2. It is requested that these proposals be submitted to AD & PC for approval of siting.
