The following is an outline of the activities of the CAdO for this period.

F/O JG Bordeleau Tech/CE on transfer to Station Uplands. F/O HA Ferguson Air/P on transfer from 2 (F) Wing, Grostenquin, France.

A mess dinner in the Officer’s Mess in honour of S/L RS Reid on the eve of his departure on transfer to USA for duty with 29th NORAD Region Malmstrom AFB Montana.

Mr. Delbridge of the Nova Scotia Safety Council Committee (Traffic) visited the unit to discuss safety precautions which could be instituted on the highway from this unit to Lower Sackville.

18 Dec 59

The annual Christmas party for the children was held in the Rec. Centre at 1400 hours.

25 Dec 59

The Officers and Senior NCO’s served Christmas dinner to airmen and airwomen in the Airmen’s Mess.

31 Dec 59

New Year’s Eve dances were held in the Officer’s and Sergeant’s messes, and at the Rec. Centre for the Airmen.

3 Jan 60

A severe storm was experienced at this unit. The roof was blown off the new chapel, power supply was disrupted, and fire alarm systems were temporarily u/s.

A Red Cross Blood Donor Clinic was held and some 52 pints of blood were received from station personnel. Nil dependants participated.

S/L KE McKenzie, AFHQ CE, and S/L WF Cooke, ADCHQ SOCE/3, visited this unit for one week.

Cpl. Maletta AFP and Commissionaire Lively noticed a strange object in the sky to the south at approximately 1930 hours. This report was also confirmed by other eye witnesses through GObC. It was later learned that the object was a space balloon launched by the USA.

Section III – Chief Technical Services Officer

Mr. DC Murray of CGE Toronto, paid a pre-maintenance visit prior to the annual overhaul of the communications equipment.

Mr. EW Kendal, Mr. WM Spratt, Mr. JO Fortier and Mr. N Janus of the Bell Telephone Engineering Section, Montreal, visited this station to investigate problems pertaining to the future installation of GATR equipment.

Mr. J Cram and party of RCA Montreal, arrived for peaking of secondary radar and training equipment.
