Surrounding Area

The country surrounding the 919th is rolling hills and wheat farms. This site is beautifully located atop Saskatoon Mountain, the only appreciable hill in the wheat belt prairies of western Alberta. The foothills of the Canadian Rockies begin their rise about 80 miles to the west. We are located about five miles off Provincial Highway Number 2. This location is approximately 50 miles southeast of Dawson Creek, BC; 280 miles northwest of Edmonton; 13 miles from the village of Beaverlodge; and 26 miles from the city of Grand Prairie.

Beaverlodge – The mailing address for the squadron is Beaverlodge, a community of about 1000 people and home for most of our separate ration personnel. Beaverlodge has several country type stores, garages, service stations, one hotel, two cafes, one branch bank and one theatre showing two movies a week twice nightly, each show running two days.

Grande Prairie – The major community, and principal shopping center for the area, is the town of Grande Prairie, headquarters of the county by the same name. The town is 26 miles from the site and 28 miles from Beaverlodge. Grand Prairie has several modern stores and restaurants. Two theatres in town offer programs six days a week, each showing two showings nightly.

Transportation to and from Grande Prairie will be available. The bus will leave the station at 1800 and leave Grande Prairie at 2300 to return to the site. This will be on an as required basis.

Religious Facilities

Almost every denomination is represented by churches and services in the towns of Beaverlodge and Grande Prairie. Base Transportation is provided for church services. A church run will be available to those wishing to attend.
