1956 – Monthly Activity Report – USAF Historical Division

1. In compliance with 64^th AD (D) Regulation 55-35, dated 27 February 1956, the following report is submitted for the month ending 31 August 1956.
1. Section I – Operations

(3) The 15-J1C was operational during the entire month.

(4) Three hours of ECM Training was conducted by 1^st Lt., Lacy, Operations Officer during the month.

(5) Two 27370’s from the 926^th AC&W Squadron were gained by this unit.

(6) Several Dirty Dan Missions were conducted against this station during the month of August. Inoperative equipment and an overall low degree of effectiveness on the part of Dirty Dan hindered extensive ECM training of unit personnel.

2. Section II – C&E Maintenance.

(1) Radar Maintenance.

(a) From the period 4 august 1956 to 22 August 1956, the Marconi Paint Team checked and painted the Radomes.

(b) On 14 August 1956 the Marconi Radar Overhaul Team arrived. On 28 August 1956, their work completed, the Radar Team departed.

(c) Red Time was encountered this month on the FPS 502 back up search net. The trouble was due to a shorted coupling capacitor C-4301 in the Trigger Amplifier Chassis.

(d) With the loss of two men to the ZI and one man on leave, maintenance personnel have been at a minimum. However, the arrival of five new men has strengthened the section considerably.

3. Section III – Communications
1. The following Activity Report is submitted for the month ending 31 August 1956.
1. During this period the overhaul teams were here performing preventative maintenance on all of our equipment. Every item received attention resulting in a thorough job.
2. The tape recorder was received for our radio station. The various sections have been assembled and checked for damage by our Radio Maintenance Section and it is ready to be installed at the radio station. The equipment will prove useful and much enjoyment will be had by all personnel at this site.
4. Section IV – Supply
1. Two (2) supply men, AFSC 64151, arrived this squadron during the month. They were detained at Goose Air Base for two weeks due to traffic conditions. However, their delay proved very helpful to this squadron. They were kept busy requisitioning items critically needed at this Site. Many items were placed in traffic by them and have already been received. New ECL’s, T/A’s, and stock lists were also acquired in many instances.
2. A/1C St. Onge, attended the UAL Conference while at Goose where many new additions and deletions were made to the UAL was received recently and is in the process of being screened against the 112O’s to determine existing discrepancies and corrections prior to returning to Wing Material Section, Goose Air Base.
3. Several ships arrived during the month. The USAF NEAC carried about five thousand pounds of supplies from Frobisher to this site, some of which were priority items. Supplies have been binned.
4. Several items consisting of both UAL and non-UAL property were received marked for the other sites. Subject property has been re-routed to designated sites. Hope other sites are doing the same for us.
5. Section IV – AIO
1. The annual supply of diesel fuel was received the first part of this month. The sea line was tested and launched without encountering any unusual difficulties. At the beginning of pumping operations the permanent pipe line burst at a welded joint leaving about a two inch gap. Temporary repair was accomplished by securing a sheet of metal patch around the break with strap iron bands. Pumping operations were resumed and completed without further incident. It is estimated that approximately one hundred barrels of fuel was lost through the patch while receiving fuel.
1. A rifle and pistol range was constructed this month, however, due to inclement weather no large scale use has been made of this facility. Light weight portable target holders were constructed which may easily be stored inside during the winter season.
2. The shipping season put a heavy work load on the Motor Pool, involving long hours of work for the personnel and several time the normal monthly mileage on the vehicles. With the use of an LCM, presently being operated by the TDN Rooney Construction Company, it would have been next to impossible to transfer much equipment and material from ship to shore. The squadron 18 foot outboard would have been entirely inadequate for this job, not only due to its small capacity but also due to sea conditions being too rough for its operation much of the time.
3. The arrival of four (4) new personnel this month has partially relieved the personnel shortage in this section. We would like to welcome T/Sgt. Klinger, electrician supervisor, T/Sgt. Schonsby, S/Sgt. Bubier, electrical power production operators, and A/1C Coolong, construction equipment operator, to this organization.
6. Section V – Miscellaneous
1. the Administrative Section performed usual duties during this period.
2. The Annual air Force Aid Society Drive was conducted during this period. Since personnel are not paid until 24 August, the actual collection was delayed and personnel were solicited to pledge donations. Pledges in amount of $170.00 were received. The actual collection made on 24 August amounted to $200.00
3. The lack of air transportation caused a shortage of postal stamps for use on personnel mail. The Postal Clerk from Frobisher was unable to visit the site and the supply of stamps available was exhausted.
4. Lt. Chrisrom ?, Chaplain, who is stationed at Frobisher visited the site from 24 August to 31 August 1956. He conducted Protestant Services and held Conference Periods. Lt. Chrisrom also brought a small supply of Air Mail and Three Cent Stamps with him which were promptly purchased and utilized by some personnel of the Squadron.
