1943 – Nazi Weather Station – Assorted Sources

One item of historical interest for the Cape Chidley area took place on 22 October 1943. A crew from the German submarine U-537 landed at Martin Bay, south of Cape Chidley, Labrador and set up a weather data transmitter. The battery powered station ceased to function after two weeks.

This is not a very good photo but I included it because this is the site of the WWII Nazi automatic weather station. The remains can still be seen on the southern tip of Hutton Peninsula. Unfortunately conditions were not suitable for me to anchor and go ashore.
