    Section II

    COMMENTARY

    Operations:

During this quarter the Operations section participated in 8 simulated and 2 live exercises. Two airmen were tested in Air Force Specialty Code 27350 and at the present time are awaiting results. Three personnel are in training for Operationally Ready Status and are scheduled for completion in January 1968. This section has lost ten airmen during this quarter with no gain. At the present time operations is working two crews, seven days a week with no breaks. Personnel gains will start in January 1968 and it is planned to revert to a normal schedule as soon as possible.

    Communications and Electronics:

Both search and height radars underwent a Depot Level Maintenance (DLM) between October and December of this quarter. The DLM team did an outstanding job on the restoration of both radars and the ancillary equipment. The DLM team was from the Canadian Marconi Company. Radio Maintenance started a DLM of their equipment on a self help project. At the end of this quarter work had progressed to one quarter completion.

    Civil Engineering:

Project CAR 6-6 was completed on 24 November 1967. Civil Engineering had a staff visit from 37th Air Division on 7 December 1967. The results were satisfactory. Five new fire fighters were selected from squadron personnel and began training in December. The squadron motor vehicles were driven 11,383 miles this quarter.

    Supply:

The annual resupply of the squadron was completed in this quarter with 1,085 tons being off loaded and stored. There were no recurring supply problems.

    Dispensary:

During this quarter the Medical Section treated a total of 183 Air Force personnel and 34 civilian employees. Sixteen military and 2 civilian personnel were referred to Goose Air Base for treatment. Of these referrals, 5 were dental, 4 were physicals and the rest were appointments. Relationship with the International Grenfell Association is excellent. Recent cases, since early November, have proven that good relations is paramount and a mission essential. During this quarter the Grenfell Mission Hospital has allowed a total of 34 X-Rays to be taken on military and civilian personnel assigned to this site. It is through this means that the annual Food Handlers Physicals are completed, and therefore keeping the number of Medical TDY’s to a minimum. Weigh-in procedures of newly assigned personnel still continues. Their progress, which is checked weekly, is considered satisfactory. Results have been satisfactory with Public Health Inspections, which have been carried out weekly. Training of site personnel in self-aid and buddy care continues. During this period lectures have been given on the subjects of Electrical Shock and the Definitive Treatment of Cardio-Respiratory Arrest.

    Other Comments:

With the coming of snow in October of this period, winter sports became pronounced. The riding of authorized sleds (skidoos) being the most popular. Skiing has been taken up by the more adventurous of squadron personnel. Ping pong and pool are the most active indoor sports. The squadron morale is still very high.
