1998 - A Visit to St. Sylvestre – Paul Ozorak

September, 1998

I have been communicating with Paul Ozorak via telephone and surface mail since December 1997. Initial communication was to obtain copies of his books, the "Abandoned Military Installations" series. We exchanged many ideas and a great deal of detail and information. He was kind enough to loan many photos of Pinetree Line radar stations to me, so I could add these to the web site. These photos had been taken during his travels as part of the necessary supporting documentation in his books.

Somewhat like the "Godfather", I eventually made him "an offer he couldn't refuse" and Paul was off and running to many military organizations in the Ottawa area to gather historical detail for the web site. The bulk of the material which he located was obtained from the National Archives of Canada. Suffice it to say that when he indicated he might take a return trip to the remains at St. Sylvestre, I requested that he take me along (in the form of a camera). He agreed to visit the site of the original radar station and take some photos of the remains. The following photographs depict the situation as it exists today.

Unfortunately, there was no descriptive detail provided with the film, and I have been left to try and "second guess" the exact nature of the photos which were taken. Perhaps you can assist a little. If you happen to recognize anything in these photos, please take note of the photo number, and send me an email message with the appropriate description. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
