  39. This pump house was on the airport side of Grice Bay. Water flowed to a "wet" well and was pumped to the airport situated approximately 3/4 mile away directly behind this picture. - September 1957.

  40. RCAF Station Tofino Fire Truck. The original 1942 International Fire Truck was, for a long time, part of the village of Tofino's equipment. There was a story about the "Fire Truck" being borrowed and driven to the village of Tofino where the errant driver was found to be in the local beer parlour (putting out a fire, no doubt) - August 1957.

    The search radar tower is the square building, flanked by two height finder radomes on the east and west.The power plant was just to the west of the left radome and the small building in front of the search tower was the Operations building. The BC Telephone building and a small lunch building were just across the access road from the Ops building.

  72. C-47 Dakota aircraft on tarmac. The building firectly behind the tail of the plane still exists and was, for many years, "Tofino Radio" weather station originally broadcasting from Estevan. The two 70 foot cedar pole antennas were erected by Tom Gibson Contracting, and must have been up a very short time when this picture was taken. The poles were logged by Ken Gibson - May 1957.

  87. The gulley, which the bridge spans in this picture, was filled in by Tom Gibson Contracting soon after this picture was taken. It is believed that work was already in progress at this time as the first job was for sand to be pushed in from both sides. In addition to this bridge, there was a small footbridge across the same gulley a little further to the north. It connected the Fire Hall side of the gulley with the barracks side - April 1957.
