MINUTES OF THE ENTERTAINMENT COMMITTEE, 28-RD R. C. A. F.
CAPE ST. JAMES, QUEEN CHARLOTTE ISLANDS, B.C.

January 16, 1945

A meeting of the entertainment committee was held in the traffic room (Jan 16) with the following members present. F/O Parker, Sgt. MacIntosh, Cpl’s Bibeau & Handford, LAC’s Lucas, Dingwall, Macdonald Rousselle.

A schedule for the 11 movies on hand was drawn up & it was decided to hold a show every night till all the movie were shown. It was also decided to have the shows at 7.30 & midnight so all shifts would have the opportunity of seeing them.
It was also suggested that we have a truth & consequences show in the near future & the members were asked to think up gags to be used in this show.

Moved by Lucas seconded by Rousselle that the meeting adjourn.

January 27, 1945

A meeting of the recreation committee was held in the orderly room at 1800 hrs Jan 27 [1945] with the following members present. F/O Parker, Cpls Hanford & Bibeau. LAC’s Andrewsky Lucas Jackson & Dow.

Mr. Lucas was in the chair. After the minutes of the previous meeting were read & approved - a schedule was drawn up as follows.

Mr. Big Sat 27
Cinderella Swings It Mon 29
Take a Letter Darling Wed 31
Pride of the Yankees Friday 2
Vivacious Lady Mon 5

It was decided to show the ‘Truth of Consequences: show on Sat 3 Feb. Several gags were discussed & the members were each asked to think of a gag to be used at this show.
It was suggested that we hold a card night on Tues 6 & it was decided that both cribbage & bridge would be played, with prizes for the winners.
Plans for a musical appreciation hour were discussed & it was decided to hold one on Thursday Feb 1 and LAC Dingwall was elected to pick out the selections & run the show. The WM’s were asked to make necessary repairs to the record player.
It was suggested that a vote of thanks be given to Hugh McCrindle at the show on Sat night for his work on the crest in the canteen.
It was arranged to hold the next meeting in the middle of the week to complete plans for the show on Sat night.

Moved by Bibeau seconded by Lucas that the meeting adjourn. Carried.


February 1, 1945

A meeting of the Entertainment Committee was held in the orderly room at 1800 hrs Feb 1 [1945] with the following members present. F/O Parker, Cpls Bibeau & Handford, LAC Lucas Andrewsky Dingwall Dow.

The meeting was opened with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting.
Moved by Lucas seconded by Dingwall that the minutes be adopted as read.
Andrewsky suggested that we postpone the Truth & Consequences show & substitute a Cribbage Tournament for Saturday night. All members were in agreement and it was decided that Andrewsky would look after the cribbage. The prizes to be $2 for the winning team - a package of cigarettes for each member of the runner-up team and a booby prize consisting of a tin of boot polish. Partners were to be decided by a draw. Free peanuts were to be distributed during the tournament.
It was decided to run the movie Mr. Big on Sunday evening at 7:30. & the Educationals to be shown Tues night.
It was also decided to hold a bridge tournament on Wednesday night - prizes $2 to the winning team .50c for booby prize. Players to pick their own partners.

Moved by Andrewsky sec by Bibeau that the meeting adjourn - Carried. H. Dow OK’d.

February 15, 1945

A meeting of the Entertainment Committee was held in the Orderly Room on Thurs Feb 15 [1945] with the following members present. F/O Parker, Cpl Handford Lac’s Andrewsky, Dingwall & Dow.

After the readings of the minutes of the previous meeting a schedule for the shows on hand was drawn up. It was decided to hold another meeting Thursday 22nd to decide on further entertainment.

Moved by Andrewsky seconded by Handford that the meeting adjourn. Carried.

February 23, 1945

A meeting of the Entertainment Committee was held in the Orderly Room at 1930 hrs Feb 23 with following members present. F/O Parker Cpl Handford LAC Andresky Dingwall & Dow.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read.
A sports night for Sat the 24 was planned - Mr. Parker volunteered to act as score keeper. The prizes to be 35c each to the 10 highest scores.
It was decided to organize a volley ball league. Scoop was nominated to take charge of the organization of the league. It was decided to run a cribbage tournament Monday 26. Andrewsky to be in charge of the tournamen . The remaining nights before boat day to be filled in with movies. Tues - Fired Wife - Wed - Swing out the Blues. It was decided to ask the Canteen Committee for $5 a month for purchase of recordings.
It was decided to approach Levy, Pearson and Dilworth to ask them to become members of the committee.

Moved by Dingwall, seconded by Andrewsky that the meeting adjourn. Carried.


March 13, 1945

A meeting of the Entertainment Committee was held in the orderly room 1800 hrs Tues March 13 with the following members present. F/O Parker, Cpl Handford LAC’s Andrewsky Levy & Dow. The meeting opened with the minutes of the previous meeting which were adopted as read.

Due to the fact that only a few members were present it was decided to arrange to have as many members as possible attend the next meeting in order that a new president may be elected.

Next the record situation was discussed. Mr. Parker informed us that the YMCA has promised to supply us with six free records a month - preferably classical & that we are to send a list of requests to B. Kniper at Alliford each month. He also promised to supply the list for March to Mr. Kniper in person.
It was decided to finish the present volley ball playoffs before the arrival of the boat if possible. LAC Levy asked that a night a week be set aside for a discussion group & it was decided to put Monday night aside for this purpose.
The following schedule for the two remaining movies on hand was arranged - Tues - “Somewhere I’ll Find You” Wed night - “Apache Trail”
It was decided to hold a Bingo Sat 17th with $10 for prizes to removed from our fund. Players to pay .5c per card - proceeds to go to the Red Cross.
The Committee was informed that several classical records from UBC were on hand & it was decided that a musical appreciation hour be held in the hospital on Tues night. The radio from the rec hall to be used for this purpose.
A cribbage night was planned for Wed. The YMCA monthly donation of $6 in merchandise to be sued for prizes.
It was decided [to]approach one of the local craftsmen to find out if he would be willing to construct some project suitable for raffling in aid of the Red Cross. Money from the Committee fund to be used for purchase of the project.

Moved by LAC Levy seconded by Mr. Parker that the meeting adjourn. [Carried].

March 16, 1945

A meeting of the Entertainment Committee was held in the orderly room Fri 16 March at 1800 hrs. The meeting was opened with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting. Moved by Lucal seconded by Cpl Handford the minutes be adopted as read.

Decided $10 be set aside for prizes for the sports night.
A vote was taken & Andy was voted in as president.
Moved by Dingwall that meeting adjourn. Carried.

A meeting of the Entertainment Committee was held in W.M. shop on Fri 29 with Cpl Handford, LAC’s Andrewsky Levy & Dow. The following schedule for entertainment Saturday - Bingo .50c card - winner take all.
Mon Discussion Group
Tues & Thursday - reshowing of show.
Wednesday cribbage - Ties to be given.

Levy moved - Andrewsky seconded that meeting adjourn. Also/ Dilworth to be invited to become a member.


April 6, 1945

A meeting of Entertainment Committee was held in the WM shop Fri April 6 with Handford - Dilworth Andrewsky Levy & Dow present.

The problem of new members was brought up & it was decided to ask Stew Craik to become a member.

The following schedule for show was drawn up.
Shows - Fri - Gaslight
Sat - Educationals
Mon - Frisco Kid
Tues- Educationals
Wed - Gaslight

Sammy Levy to write Mr. Garnett re YMCA free records for March. A list for April to be posted in mess hall. Dilworth moved Andrewsky seconded the meeting adjourn.
