No. 28 Radar Detachment

Cape St. James, BC

Here's a grand obect d'art that I came upon in Masset a few years ago (cira 1995). Charlie Smith, the wartime lighthouse keeper on the Cape, saved a whole lot of stuff left behind in August-September 1945 by the departing RCAF crew. This board was probably in the Rec Hall (down at dock level) or in the CO's office. Still in good shape after almost 50 years.

Courtesy of David Philips, Masset, BC. ex-Cape St. James RCAF (28-RU) 1943-1945. Photo and scan by JDR. On a board approximately 16" x 24".

RCAF Cape St. James crest - 28-RU. On wooden board, 16” x 24”

Wartime keeper (1943-48) Charlie Smith saved this after the RCAF garrison left the station in August 1945. It was in the Canteen. (Drawn and painted by L.A.C. Hugh McCrindle, 28-RU, 1945.)
