42 RADIO UNIT - CAPE SPEAR, NEWFOUNDLAND

Clear and cool. This unit was formed under authority of Organization No. 215. Unit was taken over from 685th Signal Corps AW Company, Third Platoon. 1st Lt James C Prince (Sig C) was American representative handing over, F/L E Dubreuil was RCAF representative taking over. Since middle of October, 12 RCAF radar personnel have been attached to this unit. Today remainder of RCAF personnel (30) arrived.

Clear and cool. Twenty American personnel left unit.

3 Nov 44

Remainder of American personnel left unit. Sgt Lytle returned to unit from hospital.

Rain. Lt. Prince left unit.

7 Nov 44

Fog. FM set installed between No 1 Group and Unit for radio telephone stand-by link. Operation very satisfactory.

Drizzly. Mailing address now CAPO #1 (Special 3).

9 Nov 44

Rainy. Off the air 15 minutes to repair sticking HT Overload relay.

10 Nov 44

Sunny and cold. One airmen from Allen Island Detachment here on TD while waiting for spectacles from St. Johns.

Heavy fog. Off the air 15 mnutes to change main rectifier tube and repair HT overload relay contacts.

Windy.

Dull and windy. Off the air 8 hrs. 35 mins. to replace worn out aerial roller bearing assembly. Old unit jammed aerial at fixed bearing.
