[Saint John, NB]

This aerial photo of the race track dates back to 1952 and was provided by Grant Kelly of Vintage Photo and Frame Limited in Saint John. The road running left to right is McAllister Drive. The road to the left of the race track which disappears towards the top of the photo is Golden Grove Road. We have been advised that the radar station was up the hill on Golden Grove Road.

There is no visible evidence of a radar station in this photo. One reason is that the location was up the hill and out of this photo shot. We must also remember that the radar station was constructed in late 1943, became operational in January 1944 and was closed down in September 1944. There is a very good possibility that the complex could have been demolished between the end of 1944 and the spring of 1952 when this photo was taken.

One final piece of historical trivia. If you look at this photo, you will see the original Moose Path Racing Park at the intersection of McCallister Drive and Golden Grove Road. This would have been the situation between 1943 and 1952. There have been many changes since that time. The race track has changed location (see the map which shows the new track in the general vicinity of McAllister Drive and Westmorland) and it has also changed its name, now known as Exhibition Park.
