Cape Spear, NF

We have not been able to pinpoint the exact location of the 42 RD radar station, and for the moment, we are satisfied in accepting the fact that this complex was established and operated from the general area of Cape Spear. It is unlikely that anything remains after so many years. It is with this in mind that we offer an assortment of photos taken in 2003 which depict the current situation at Cape Spear.

We have tried to avoid photos which depict the new lighthouse (constructed in 1955) or the remains of gun emplacements and bunkers because these items would not have existed in the 1943-1945 time frame.

  7. The original lighthouse at Cape Spear - July 2003.
    This lighthouse was constructed in 1836 and remained active until 1955. It had a 35 foot octagonal stone tower projecting from the center of a square keeper's house.
