Of TPS-1D radars at USAF ADC sites 10 - Ramore, 14 - Pagwa, 15 - Armstrong, 16 - Sioux Lookout, 17 - Beausejour, 19 - Puntzi Mountain and 21 - Saskatoon Mountain, is estimated for 1 Apr 53 and 30 Apr 53 for site 20 - Baldy Hughes, is proceeding according to schedule.

(i) - Tie Lines: - A report on land-line facilities is expected to be available for the next report issued by this office.

b - VHF air-ground Communication and HF back-up communications

Site 1 - Mont Apica - VHF completed. HF 90%, with estimated completion date set for 15 Apr 53..

Site 2 - Lac St. Denis - VHF completed. HF 50%, with estimated completion date set for 1 May 53.

Site 3 - Foymount - 30% complete.

Site 4 - Edgar - 70% of equipment shipped. No installation to date.

Site 7 - Parent - Installation to begin in Apr 53.

Site 8 - Senneterre - Installation to begin in Apr 53.

Site 9 - Falconbridge - Installation 40% completed.

(i) - In order to meet shipping dates set for the NEAC sites the order of priority has been changed as noted on Page 13 and Page 14. Equipment must be received at Newark depot for St. Anthony, Cartwright and Hopedale no later than 15 Jun 53 and for Saglek, Frobisher and Resolution no later than 1 Aug 53.

(ii) - Deliveries of AN/FPS-3 radars began the last week of Feb with arrival of the first load at Ramore. The balance of the Ramore shipment will be completed in March. Shipments to Pagwa will begin in the middle of March.

(iii) - With the approach of installation deadlines and NEAC shipping date, the non-allocation of USAF-supplied communications equipment by USAF HQ is critical. At the date of this report allocations and delivery dates on the following equipments are still outstanding:

USAF ADC Sites:

An additional crew is expected to be in Ramore by the first week in April. Two more crews should be in the field in May.

RCAF Sites:

Mont Apica - (Site 1) - Main radar complete and operating.

Lac St. Denis - (Site 2) - Main radar completed and operating.

Foymount (Site 3) - AN/FPS-3 - 100% complete. Checks as per test specifications. 50% completed. Two ISG-98 sets each 98% complete.

Edgar (Site 4) - AN/FPS 100% complete. Waiting for acceptance test flights. Two ISG-98 radars each 80% complete.

Parent (Site 7) - AN/FPS-3 - 100% complete. 20% of equipment tests finished. Estimated ready for acceptance tests by 31 Mar 53. Two ISG-98 radars each 50% complete.

Senneterre (Site 8) - AN/FPS-3 - 100% complete. Two ISG-98 radars are each 25% complete.

Falconbridge (Site 9) - AN/FPS-3 - 100% complete. Operational tests completed. Two ISG-98 radars are each 99% complete.

(i) - Radio - Engineering plans covering the installation of HF point-to-point and UHF VHF air-ground facilities for the 18 USAF-financed, USAF-manned Pinetree Sites, including Gander, have been completed and distributed to the installation contractors and are in the process of being distributed to affected military agencies. The Canadian Marconi Company is presently engaged in the installation engineering of the LF antenna systems for the NEAC sites. Delays in procurement action relative to the LF antennas make it necessary that all possible expediting action be utilized if these facilities are to become operational this year. However, USAF decision to postpone construction of the separate LF transmitter site at N-24 (Goose Bay) may male LF communication non-operational since this site serves as the communications hub for the entire system.

(ii) - Radar - Engineering plans and specifications for the primary radar facilities for the 18 USAF-financed, USAF-manned Pinetree sites, including Gander, have been completed and are in the process of distribution. Engineering plans and specifications covering the AN/FPS-502 back-up height finder (formerly called AN/TPS-10D) facility are essentially complete and will be distributed prior to 1 April 53. Installation engineering action on the AN/FPS-502 is being held in abeyance pending further information as to the configuration of the equipment. Engineering plans and specifications for the associated identification equipments are approximately 90% complete and are in the process of reproduction and assembly.

(iii) - Wire Facilities

a - Outside Plant: - Engineering plans and specifications covering the installation of outside plant facilities at all USAF-financed, USAF-manned Pinetree Line sites including Gander have been completed and distributed. Cost estimates and preliminary engineering data covering tail cable facilities for N-22 (St. John’s GCI), N-22A (St. John’s ADCC), N-23 (Stephenville), and N-25 (Gander) have been completed and further action is being held in abeyance pending funding and necessary procurement action.

b - Inside Plant: - Northern Electric Company has been furnished with all the information required for production of the NE-611 and the NE-612 telephone systems. The NE-612 system (EW) will be essentially identical to the GTA-3 telephone system as furnished to USAF ZI EW stations. The NE-611 telephone system will consist of NE-612 telephone system expanded to meet GCI requirements.

(iv) - Installation: - Engineering and contractual action relative to the physical installation of equipments has been completed and further progress is entirely dependent on the availability of equipments.
