Col E. Forde, OBE, DSO, VD

1885-1953

Col E. Forde, of Kingston, became Chief Signal Officer of the Canadian Expeditionary Force in France during the First World War and was largely responsible for the Canadians having made the most extensive use of wireless among all the Allied forces.

His foresight was responsible for the preservation of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in the reduced permanent force which followed the end of the war. Col Forde was the guiding hand that maintained the level of preparedness in the Corps prior to the onset of the Second World War.
