Memories of Oran, Algeria - Assorted Sources

The RCAF was flying F-86 Sabre Mk II aircraft in 1954 and as a result, they could only carry 100 gallon drop tanks. Due to the short range of the aircraft, it was necessary to stop at Oran in Algeria - when flying to or from Rabat.

As a rule, the Sabres would depart their home base and proceed to Istres in southern France, and then continue to Oran for refuelling prior to their final destination at Rabat.
