G/C Burbank, Director of Telecom/Eng. AFHQ arrived on TD to discuss Telecom problems with STelO.

S/LTJB Robinson and P/O R Nason of Air Division HQ visited the unit on matters pertaining to the Micro Wave Unit.

6 Jul 54

P/O R Nason of 1 Air Division HQ visited the unit on the establishment of the Micro Wave Unit.

12 Jul 54

P/O RM Nason appointed OC of Micro Wave Unit. Seven personnel including P/O Nason have arrived and commenced operations. This unit will only be here as a lodger unit and will eventually be located in the St. Avold area when all conditions and plans have been finalized.

Visitors to the Unit were S/L Sansoucy, OC of the newly formed Air Division Micro-Wave Unit and his Assistant F/O J Cartwright. Temporary command of the unit has been under P/O Nason with ten servicemen on strength. They conferred with the CO in the organization and functions of the unit.

S/L Sansoucy and F/P J Cartwright of 1 Air Division Micro Wave unit visited the Station and conferred with the CO and the CTechO.

S/L JWR Sansoucy and F/O J Cartwright reported to the unit on posting. They are OC and 2 i/c of 1 Tel SU which will be a lodger unit at this Wing.

F/O BA Wood, Telecom from Air Division HQ visited on Crypto matters and conferred with WTelO, F/L GA Jones.

A group of Americans headed by Lt. D Marken, USAF from Fontainbleau, arrived on the Station re positioning of Micro Wave towers.

14 Sep 54

Lt. D Marken, (USAF) at Fontainbleau, arrived and commenced work on installation of Micro Wave towers for 1 Tel SU.

17 Sep 54

Captain MG McSweeny, USAF Fontainbleau, reported in to 1 Tel SU on Telecom and Micro Wave matters.

Micro Wave was placed on the air and guards were sent out to the relay points.

Request received for the movement of Angelvilliers remote site in order to remove interference on the US Army microwave system.

Lorraine in operation and the circuit at Angevilliers was discontinued.

Mr. Ben Metheral of the Canadian Press accompanied by S/L Lee of Air Div arrived on unit at 0930 hours. He was interviewed by CO and then proceeded on a station tour. S/L Sansoucy of 601 was interviewed as well as Mrs. Sansoucy who is president of the Ladies Auxiliary.

A/C C.A. Cook, Chief Logistics Officer, accompanied by A/V/M Godwin, AOC of Air Div arrived 2 (F) Wing at 1000 hours for a visit of 601 Radio Relay Squadron .

Mr. Bille who arrived yesterday made a tour of the Station including 601 Radio Relay Squadron.

The last $500.00 bingo before Easter was enjoyed in the Rec. Centre by a crowd of over 900 people, all after that big jackpot. To stimulate things another $500.00 jackpot was started the same evening so that there were two big prizes available if anyone was lucky enough. The main jackpot was won by LAC Hoffman of 601 Radio Relay Squadron.

A/C Annis, VCAs/CTel – AFHQ, arrived this afternoon. Inspected 601 installations at Lescourt and Zimmering. In the evening he was a guest of G/C Newson at the CO's house.

A/C Annis inspected the troops on parade this morning and presented two campaign ribbons to LAC GF Young. In the afternoon he toured Wintersburg RR site and after a briefing by the CO at 1615 and dinner in the Mess, he left by service aircraft for Paris accompanied by the CO.

Weather fairly good except for intermittent thunderstorms going through. Teletype circuits knocked out by last night's storm.
