Communiqué No. 2

Westonian forces occupied the Eiffel today. Fantasian forces have made an orderly retreat to prepared positions.

For the past two days air reconnaissance sorties have been carried out by the Westonian Air Force over Fantasia. Air activity has been restricted to reconnaissance, mainly of Fantasian air bases. Fantasian fighter aircraft engaged reconnaissance aircraft in several sectors. No reports are being released in this regard as yet.

The President of Fantasia has called an emergency session of parliament to meet A.M. 25 Jul 53. Usually well informed circles predict that war will be declared at this extraordinary meeting of the Bunderform.

Fantasian nationals are fleeing Westonia, one Fantasian reports that the president of the Fantasian delegation to the Eiffel Plebiscite Conference was assassinated after a heated session. First reports indicate that a grenade was thrown as the Fantasian delegation emerged from the Cominstag.

There have been demonstrations before the Westonian consulates in several Fantasian towns. Windows in the consul general’s chateau in Brulange were smashed by bricks, bottles and other debris thrown by the usually peaceful residents of this picturesque resort spa. The Westonian travel bureau in Morhange was sacked and the manager severely beaten. Other demonstrations were reported in the rail centre of Puttelange and the coal centre of Faulquemont. Strangely enough, from the capital city Vahl our reporter states that "the city remains calm, despite the heavily charged atmosphere of the international situation." End of Communiqué.
