1958 – A Typical Day – Don Norrie

This photo was taken summer of 1958 on Route D-79 between the village of Grostenquin and the station turn-off. This lady and her cows were a common scene to those of us who drove this route on a daily basis. She would not move the cattle over no matter how long the line of cars got. This particular day I was more annoyed then usual, so decided to try and go around the right side of the herd - hoping of course, that the cows would move over when they saw me approach them and let me by. A big mistake - the lady had trained them well. When I neared the rear quarters of the cow on the right I obviously startled her and she lashed out with a rearward kick that shattered the glass of the right headlight of my Volkswagen. The old dear glanced over at me with a look that said: "There; I hoped you have learned a lesson". I had. Never again did I try to pass Madam and her cows.
