Our Home in Guessling – September 1954

This is a photo of the house we rented two rooms in from September 1954 until 1955 when our PMQ was ready. Although it was a new house, there was no electricity or running water. We had a coal stove in the kitchen which had many functions such as: cooking, heating the flat irons, boiling laundry, and heating the rooms when the damp chill permeated the cement-block building. I remember my dad setting the alarm clock several times a night to get up and add coal to the stove so that mom, the babies and I would be warm enough. I know we shared this house with the Boswells, but am uncertain whether anyone else lived there.
