4 Dec 62

W/C LJ McLeod, the CAdO returned to Canada and was replaced by W/C JH Phillips from 1 Air Div Headquarters.

17 Dec 62

A disbandment parade was held today for 423 All Weather Squadron. The Squadron presented their emblem, a bald eagle to the Commanding Officer. The official date of disbandment for 423 Squadron was 1200 hours on 31 December 62.

15 Jan 63

Another disbandment ceremony was held for 434 Squadron. 434 Squadron who have been on exchange from 3 Wing for a few months disbanded here as a Sabre Squadron and will reactivate at their home base when equipped with CF-104s.

10 Feb 63

During 10 - 11 Feb a group of USAF Reserve Officers led by Brig. Wolfe visited the Wing. Later in February, 2 Wing also received visits by A/C Poole and Bishop Norris.

2 Mar 63

One of our airmen, LAC Palmer died accidentally in his home. The funeral was held 7 March with interment at the cemetery of Choloy.

27 - 28 Mar 63

The annual AOC’s Inspection was carried out by the C of S A/C Bradshaw during this period.

4 Apr 63

A group of Officers headed by the Commanding Officer, G/C MacBride visited a section of the Maginot Line. Later in April a group of French Officers were entertained by the Wing.

14 - 20 Apr 63

During this week a British Air Cadet Squadron (430 Drolsden) visited with our 430 (IDF) Squadron. During the week they were given a steady programme of tours, lectures and sports.

28 Apr 63

The Commanding Officer took part in a wreath laying ceremony at St. Avold to commemorate those deported from their homes by World War II.

8 May 63

Another ceremony at St. Avold - VE Day and Festival of Joan of Arc. The CAdO attended at the representative from 2 Wing.

15 May 63

The Hon Mr. George Drew, Canadian High Commissioner to Britain arrived by aircraft. He presented CDs to ten personnel and carried out a short tour of the Wing before proceeding by car to Metz.

22 May 63

A farewell parade for 430 (IDF) Squadron was held on this day with their actual disbandment occurring 1 Jun 63.

30 May 63

Our Guard of Honour participated in the American Memorial Day Services held at St. Avold. The Commanding Officer, G/C RE MacBride, attended and laid a wreath for the RCAF.
