North Luffenham

The Rest of the Story - Paul Martin

I was on a trip to RAF Coltishall with a jet engine. One of the 410 Squadron Sabres had lost oil pressure during Operation Dividend and the Sabres were returning to North Luffenham. As you can see I stopped at a Pub for lunch. It was better than eating at the RAF stations. When I returned home it was at night and over there everything at that time was pitch black. I looked in the truck mirrors out of force of habit but you could see nothing. This Police car pulled me over and the Bobbie asked whether I had looked at my Lorry lately? I got out and found some of the ropes on the tarp covering the old engine I was taking back had come loose on one side and were dragging along the road. Well the Bobbie's over there were great people and you could talk to them. He took a statement from me and that was it. A few weeks later I got this letter. It sure made me happy.
