Funeral service for F/O P Pigot was held at Marville in the Protestant Church, later the deceased was flown by North Star to England for internment at Manchester, England.

Funeral services of the other passengers was held at 2 (F) Wing, with internment of these personnel at Choloy Military Cemetery, France.

18 Dec 55

Sunday, a white gift service was held in the station theatre in which each child of the Protestant Sunday School brought a gift wrapped in white. 312 gifts were received on this occasion and presented along with a gift of money to the Protestant Orphanage at Sedan on 20 Dec 55.

Chapel Services

21 Dec 55

Chapel Choir made a tour of the station, singing Christmas carols and hymns.

22 Dec 55

Chapel choir visited all PMQ presenting hymns and carols.

25 Dec 55

Special Christmas service held, carol service was put on by the chapel choir and took the form of a candlelight service.

28 Dec 55

The airwomen of 1 (F) Wing presented the 50 girls orphans at St. Maur Catholic Orphanage with gifts on behalf of the station. A party was also held for the children with the Station pipe band participating.

196 airmen and airwomen wrote the December Quarterly Trade Examination.

The Station Education Office was moved from its temporary office in the Station Theatre, they are now located in Barrack Block 15.

Died: 48459 LAC PH Crosbie died from natural causes. Crosbie was admitted to the station hospital, he was later airlifted to USAF Hospital Landstul Germany where he died on 31 Jan. 56.

Funeral service was held for 48459 LAC PH Crosbie in the (P) Church 1 (F) Wing Marville, the deceased was later buried at Choloy Military Cemetary, France.

Dr. Robert Westwater, Superintendent of Schools and Director of Vocational Training, Ottawa, gave a current affairs lecture on the Middle East in the Station Theatre.

Major-General DC Spry, CBE, DSO, CD, Deputy Director of the Boy Scouts International Bureau visited 1 (F) Wing for 2 days. He was accompanied by Mrs. Spry.

Major-General Spry was guest speaker at a Father and Son Dinner.

His Excellency Archbishop Roy, Bishop Ordinary (RC) Canadian Armed Forces, visited 1 (F) Wing. He was accompanied by the Rt Rev JG Berry, Archbishop of Halifax, England and Rev JM Brochu.

G/C CL Ingles, AMTS/DCEA, accompanied by Mr. H Morgan, Mr. B Baribeau, visited, re construction requirements. The escorting officer was F/L Kerslake of Air Div HQ.

Mr. T Macartney-Filgate of the National Film Board visited, accompanied by F/L Bolan. The purpose of the visit was for script research for an RCAF sponsored indoctrinational film.

Mr. John Shaw, reporter from the Victoria Colonist, BC visited 1 Wing for the purpose of news coverage.

EDUCATION

S/L Swardfager and 5 instructors arrived from Training Command Trenton, to set up an SIT course to be given to airmen from Langar, 1 Air Division and 1 (F) Wing. S/L Evans from Air Division HQ accompanied them.

16 Apr 56

The School of Instructional Technique began a two weeks course, using the classrooms of the Education Center.

CHAPEL SERVICES

On Easter Sunday, a record attendance was achieved in the history of 1 Wing Chapel, 75 extra chairs were placed along the aisles. Special anthems were presented by the augmented choir.

DEATHS

217017 LAC JL Bowen on temporary duty in Rabat, died there of natural causes on 19 Apr 56. The funeral service was held at 1 (F) Wing on 23 April with internment at Choloy Military Cemetery, France.

SPORTS

The finals of the Air Division Volley Ball tournament were held at 1 (F) Wing. The men's (441 Squadron) team from 1 (F) Wing were the winners of the Men's Division. Air Division ladies' team were also winners. G/C Somerville presented trophies to the winning teams.

1 (F) Wing Rifle and Pistol Association won the Air Division Small Bore Shoot and placed 4th in the Full Bore Shoot.

1 (F) Wing Station Badminton Club proceeded to 3 (F) Wing and won the Team Trophy as well as two individual trophies.

Mr. AH Zimmerman, Chairman DRB, escorted by W/C JA Gordon, Air Division, visited the station and also toured the local countryside, including Montmedy Castle and the Maginot Line Fort at La Ferte.

6 May 56
