Fik. still gracing us with his presence. F/L Crane went to 3 Wing and back in Expeditor. He returned with Xmas decorations for the Mess. F/O Moore gave a unit check to F/O Hollingshead, a new pilot on 410 Sqn.

F/O Tegart returned from UK. His radio trouble caused us our first violation. The rest of us did routine IF trips with the C-45 off and back from 4 Wing.

F/L Crane, F/O Landreville, and S/L Pook toured the Wings in the C-45 on a scrounge trip. The simulator is now serviceable. F/L Mayne and F/L O'Mara were given unit checks.

We finally have three a/c serviceable all day (12:10), of course the simulator is u/s.

F/O Moore and F/O Tegart on TD to Langar. They are to give Langar's GCA operators jet experience. F/L Lockhart back from Canada and leave.

F/O Landreville ventured to 4 Wing and back. In the afternoon F/O Stacey and F/L Oldfin flew to Langar for Mod kit for 179. F/O Moore and Tegart returned from Langar after shooting some GCAs.

Simulator is serviceable again. We ran some tests on it all afternoon. F/O Cockburn and crew took the C-45 to Langar for the weekend. F/O McLeod took Sgt Tremblay in T-33 to Langar for the weekend. F/O McLeod took Sgt Tremblay in T-33 to Langar and back for additional Mod. kit.

Weather duffer than usual. It has been rainy all week.

F/O Lockhart given unit check by F/O Moore. Two more new pilots on the Station, F/L Gourly and Milne. They received their unit check ride.

F/O Stacey and Moore flew the C-45 to 4 Wing. They stopped at 3 Wing and dropped F/O Lockhart to investigate a prang. In 4 Wing they picked up the payroll; 18,000 in Scrip. Returned between snow storms.

F/O Tillotson, a new pilot on 439 Sqn given his unit check by F/O Stacey. Total time for the month up over last month.

Routine IF trips. An attempt was made by F/O Stacey to land at Bitburg. F/O Webber of 441 Sqn ditched a u/s Sabre there. Ground fog made a landing in the T-33 impossible.

F/O Stacey and F/O Alto off to Rhein Main in the C-45 to pick up the CO. Near zero weather made the C-45 difficult to start. On return trip the starboard engine froze wide open. A single engine landing was made at base. Time for the month 125:15.

Started the month off with 7:20. The Expeditor is AOG waiting for a throttle teleflex cable. F/O's Moore & Landreville visited 4 Wing for 2 hrs.

410 departed for Rabat, F/O's Tegart & McLeod joining them for a holiday. F/L Oldfin goes down Saturday after completing his promotion exams.

F/O's Moore & Landreville took our one a/c to Bitburg, but the tiptanks didn't feed. They returned DNCO, a/c u/s.

F/O's Stacey & Landreville went to Bitburg again. Mission accomplished with F/O Landreville returning with 441's Sabre.

Expecting freezing rains, F/O Landreville took F/L Gigliotti to 3 Wing early. The Flyer's play K-Waterloo tonight. F/O Moore left for Rabat with the crystals that 410 forgot to take with them. We are getting ready to bring our two hangar tents from 2 Wing.

F/O Moore returned from Rabat without incident, making the trip both ways non-stop. F/O Landreville and F/L Gigliotti returned from the hockey game.

Weather not too good. F/O Lockhart took a 441 pilot to 3 Wing to pick up a Sabre. F/S Fee returned from 2 Wing sans tents, as they seem reluctant to give them to us. 439 is short on pilots so the simulator is idle.

The weather is clear and cold. We hope to have three a/c serviceable. The near zero temp has reduced our a/c to two a/c, then one. Telecom is the big trouble. Ended day with 8:10.

Cold weather is keeping the a/c u/s. Had one trip in the mornng, and one in the afternoon. Even the simulator went u/s after 5 trips. This gets very discouraging.

Heavy snow storm. Lecture in the morning on current affairs. In the afternoon we got two a/c started, but the weather clamped again, and the trips were cancelled.

Weather still duff. W/C Knowles left for Rabat in a T-33. Simulator u/s.

15 Feb 56

W/C Knowle returned from Rabat. A shortage of fuel on the way down forced him to land at Istres. F/O Staey left for Weisbaden for decompression test.

F/O Stacey returned, successfully decompressed. F/O Lockhart off to Langar for the weekend.

No flying today. The weather was fair but there was no alternate. F/O Lockhart returned from England. F/O Sanche joined the flight for a few T-33 rides, and eventual Sabre check-out.

21 Feb 56

Weather is again the problem. Clear skies, but the vis is down to 1 - 1 1/2 miles. In the afternoon we used Bitburg as an alternate, and got three airborne. Two went down to the French Alps to have a look at the ski-course site.

Same as day before. Two a/c off in the afternoon. "They" now tell us our limits are 1500' and 1 1/2 with no alternate.

The weather is still hazy in the mornings, but we got two off in the afternoon.

We flew six sorties, and F/O Sanche went solo in the T-33. After an urgent call from Air Div, F/O lockhart made a run to 2 Wing and then to Langar with F/O Zolvany to catch a Northstar to Canada.

F/O Lockhart returned from Langar with F/O Myles, who is returned to the Wing from Renfrew for a T-33 checkout.

27 Feb 56

Simulator is still u/s. We flew five sorties until all the a/c went u/s in mid-afternoon. F/O Myles went solo in the T-33 and now returns to Renfrew. F/O Stacey now leaves for 2 weeks TD in the sunny alps of France for the Ski-course.

There were two ferry trips to carry pilots to the Zulu squadron in 3 Wing. Local IF exercises until a/c went u/s at 1500 hrs.

The preceding 3 days were fraught with bad weather and a/c u/s. 9 sorties flown during the day composed of IF trips and sector recces with new squadron pilots.

6 Mar 56

Ten sorties flown - Aircraft serviceability showing turn for the better. Local recces with new squadon pilots, IF trips, and green ticket checks carried out. The last of 022 was realized as F/O Moore took it to Renfrew.

The usual Wednesday morning waiting for our aircraft to come serviceable. F/L Oldfin took a TV cameraman up in a T-33 for some movie shots of Sabres in formation. F/O Lockhart's oxygen mask was borrowed for the trip. The cameraman became ill. F/O Lockhart turned in his mask for a new one.

F/O Moore and F/O Sanche returned from Scotland where they had left 022. No tears were shed at the loss we suffered. This leaves us with our T-33 aircraft. 10:40 hours were logged for the day with F/O Fikowski logging 3 Green Ticket test rides. The simulator flew two trips before it was declared u/s.

This was one of our better days - 16.50 hrs logged on T-33 and everyone agreed that all days should be replicas of today with the serviceability repeating itself frequently.

10:30 flown today, F/O Fikowski had 4 trips with us today - all tests.

7:00 hrs today, F/O Fikowski again flew 2 more test rides. F/O Lockhart went to Renfrew to pick up F/O Westphal who flew over a Sabre.

F/O Landreville returned from leave and had the only trip. F/O Lockhart returned safe and sound from Renfrew.

F/O Stacey from Ski course. F/L Oldfin and F/O Landreville had a quick trip to 4 Wing. 9:30 hrs flown today.

4:25 flown today, mostly IF trips. F/O Rayon took C-45 to Wimstorf.

F/Os Landreville and Sanche had only trip today, all a/c u/s. The C-45 went to 4 (F) Wing.

Wed morning as usual no flying. The weather cleared enough in the afternon for 4 trips.

The weather similar to yesterday. Our a/c are having trouble with the gyro instruments. The simulator has been u/s for a few days. Right now it will not leave the ground. F/O Landreville did a local trip to try and find the interference on our beacon. The hospital called for an Air Evac to Weisbaden in the C-45. F/Os Moore and Stacey returned at 22:15.

The simulator is now serviceable (?) almost. Our T-birds took 3 pilots to 3 Wing to ferry Sabres home. F/O Lockhart off to England for another wicked weekend. Compasses are still giving us beaucoup trouble.

Usual Sat morning with half strength of pilots in. F/O Landreville flew the only two trips of the morning as both others u/s for flying.

Wx poor but put in 8 sorties. F/O Moore flew SMO to Weisbaden but couldn't land as wx below VFR. F/O Lockhart back from UK on time.

C-45 emergency call at 10:00 hrs to Weisbaden, flown by F/O Ryan. F/L Oldfin and F/O Holt tried to get to Istres, failed, no radio contact. F/O Lockhart and Holt went to Istres.

F/L Oldfin and F/O Clayton went to England in a T bird to pick up the Flying clubs Auster. Another trip was taken to Istres by F/O Lockhart. This time the trip was successful.

F/O Moore and 439 left for Rabat on Saturday. F/O Stacey back from leave. Three a/c serviceable for 9:35. Even the simulator is serviceable.

Still have 3 a/c serviceable. No flying in the morning but we flew 8:30 in the afternoon. The C-45 is on a major check.

Winter is again with us. Snowing steadily from 09:30. F/O Landreville made an early trip in a Sabre; the last a/c to land here today. The afternoon was spent by the athletically minded in the gym.

Five trips were flown today between the snow showers. F/O McLeod took F/L Fisher to 4 Wing for an operators conference.

F/O Landreville to 4 Wing at 08:00 hrs to pick up F/L Fisher. F/O Lockhart went to England again.

F/O Lockhart back from England. F/O Landreville and Tegart are preparing for a trip to Rabat. F/O McLeod took F/L Cambell, who is on his way home, to Langar.

G/C Summerville, F/O Tegart, and F/O Landreville left in 2 T-33 for Rabat. Weather is just about perfect for the trip. The simulator is again u/s. In the afternoon a compass swing made 077 serviceable. F/L Lockhart and F/L Gigliotti went low level to Vimy Ridge to take some pictures.

F/O Moore and S/L Belleau returned non-stop from Rabat. After 3 1/2 hrs their derrieres were slightly numb.

G/C Somerville and F/O Tegart returned from Rabat without incident. F/L Fox was given a low level ride in order to survey the country for the coming E&E exercise.

The morning was spent at pay parade. The weather cleared enough in afternoon for one trip.

F/O Lockhart almost started for Rabat but duff weather foiled his attempt. The weather kept us from getting any trips.

F/O Lockhart and S/L Kennedy finally made it to Rabat. F/L Oldfin and F/O Moore paid a visit to 2 Wing in the late afternoon.

F/O Moore is on the aeromedical course at Weisbaden. F/O Stacey went picture taking with F/L Fox for Sabot Slog. Our simulator won't stay serviceable.

441 wasn't able to supply any pilots today so we did mutual trips. F/L Cresley EO 441 is being checked out by F/O Lockhart.

F/O Lockhart made a trip to Geilenkirchen to pick up F/O Boyd who force landed a Sabre there. F/O Stacey and Capt Cheval had dinner in Dijon. The messing is adequate and the wine sufficient. 441 still short on pilots, favoured us with 2 today.

F/O Moore back from Weisbaden. Three of us got up on the Saturday morning trip.

We finally got some IF time in. 441 have some extra pilots so they did some trips. F/L Lafrance checked a new pilot of 441. F/O Moore took a ferry pilot to Geillenkirchen to pick up a Sabre.

Our one a/c was taken to the UK by two pilots of Air Div. Some of us did a few Sabre trips.

F/L Oldfin took G/C Somerville to 2 Wing to pick up our first Sabre 6. Both returned safely.

All of our a/c here are u/s for inspection etc. The simulator has been serviceable all day. Our French comrades are having their labour day holiday. We have been finishing our end of the monthly reports.

Wed. morning - no flying. F/O Stacey giving check out to F/O Sanche. F/L Baker of 439 was given a unit check by F/O Moore. No word from F/O Lockhart who is still in Rabat.

F/O McLeod off in his car to 2 Wing and Weisbaden to obtain signatures for his investigation. F/O Lockhart returned from Rabat with news that independence hasn't quieted the natives any.

The expeditor was flown for it's test flip today. The simulator has been u/s for a couple of days. Two of the T-33s did a formation trip.

F/O Landreville did one trip in the morning and F/O Westphal took a passenger to Langar in the afternoon.

F/O Stacey and F/O Moore did a dual ride in the C-45 and then went to 2 Wing and back. The simulator was serviceable for three trips. A shortage of squadron pilots allowed us only one IF trip. 410 used one of our T-birds for a night check. We were ready to fly with them but they didn't clear us.

The C-45 attempted to go from Frescaty to Germany but was recalled to Base. It then proceeded to Weisbaden. Our T-33s were all u/s for 410 to night fly with. The flight had a bang up party. No fights, no fuss, lots of beer.

We are down to one T-33 which wasn't serviceable all day. Our time for the month is mighty low. F/L Oldfin flew the Sabre VI today. Hero No. 1 (from Sachauld)

F/O Lockhart took our one T-33 to Langar. The rest of us flew Sabres. F/O Cockburn did some local practice in the C-45.

5 trips flown today - G/C Somerville flew the Sabre VI again. F/O Lockhart came back from Langar.

10:30 flown today. F/O Lockhart went to Langar to pick up F/O Liukko. F/O Landreville had 4 trips. F/O Moore still trying to get checked out on C-45. Went to 3 and 4 Wings. Brought F/O Schneider back to 1 Wing.

F/O Stacey and F/O Moore in C-45 to Metz and Buckenburg. On the trip home they had a look at Soest and some of the "Dambusters" territory. The squadron pilots are preparing for the E&E which starts tonight.

Our simulator is now serviceable but with the Squadron pilots on E&E we have no students. F/O Moore & Landreville did a trip with Sabres from 441. In their eagerness to catch the VI they almost pranged. Landreville counted the rivets on the belly of Moore's a/c. The T-33's had a couple of successful encounters with American Sabres.

We still have no students so are doing mutual rides. F/L Cassely went solo today. F/O Moore took the C-45 to 2 Wing in the afternoon.

There was no flying in the morning. The C-45 toured the Wings and brought back the fireworks for the 24th. F/O Tegart left our happy little throng to be Wing Ops Officer.

11:55 flown today. The C-45 went to Spang. Beaucoup CB's around - weather finally cancelled flying in late afternoon.

Pay Parade ruined the morning for flying. In the afternoon there were no students for IF. Just 4 trips today.

W/C Williams did an IF trip with us today, and offered a few suggestions about the ride. Our time for the month: T-33 154:35, F-86 13:40, and C45 39:00. F/O Landreville went all out for 60:00 hours.
