F/O JA Davidson (441 Sqn) abandoned his F-86 when control problems occurred. The pilot suffered a sprained ankle as a result of his bail-out, the aircraft being a complete write off. Accident cause assessed as obscure.

S/L LC Price appointed OC 441 Sqn until squadron deactivates in September 1963.

Nine pilots and eight a/c and support from 439 (F) Sqn, to 2 UG72 Leck, Germany for a squadron exchange. Aircraft from 441 (F) Sqn delivered to Prestwick.

Sep 63

Squadron social activities reached a peak in September. Flying was interrupted by aircraft being fitted to go to Prestwick towards the end of the month. 441 (F) Squadron deactivated.

Arrival of first CF-104 by C-130 aircraft.

Pipe Band attended St Nicholas Parades at Longwy and Metz respectively.

30 Dec 63

Bristol freighter aircraft on final approach to runway 12 under radar contol crashed slightly more than 1 mile from runway killing eight (ie 4 crew members); 1 crewman and 2 passengers were injured.

W/C RM Edwards was appointed to command 441 (S/R) Squadron upon its reactivation. (See photographs Appendix C).
