Rocroi Deployment Airfield
Don McMillan

These photos were taken in Rocroi, near the deployment airfield which was used by the RCAF.

Evidently, Cpl Carlow, NCO i/c, would play golf on Wednesday and it was not unusual to see him return to the airfield feeling "little or no pain".

His crew, feeling somewhat left out, visited the nearby town of Rocroi and borrowed the Mayor's car and his donkey. They placed the donkey into the car, and drove back to the deployment airfield - and then installed the donkey in Cpl Carlow's room, knowing he would not return until after dark.

They disabled the light and as a result, Cpl Carlow got the scare of his life when he got to his room and found this hairy, smelly beast obstructing the path to his bunk. The crew thought this was a hilarious prank.

They were not so amused when it took the better part of five days to get the smell out of the barracks.

Web site note: We were not advised of the consequences involved for "borrowing the Mayor's car and his donkey". (grin)
