The village of Edith Weston gets its name from the wife of Edward The Confessor. Apparently he gave her (Edith Weston) the village as a wedding present. That village Post Office building was built about 100 years before Columbus discovered America. The village church is from the eleventh century. Not only was the village old, but so were its residents. It's only a small place, but when we lived there over 50 of its residents were over 65 years of age! There were many places there with thatched roofs and I remember watching a professional Thatcher re-thatching the roof of one of the places you can see in the background of the Post Office photo.
