RCAF Archaeology at Marville

The year is 2003 - some 36 years after RCAF Station Marville was closed. Photos available on this web site clearly identify what remains - from the perspective of the buildings which were used by the RCAF. But what about those rumours that persist to this day. One such rumour indicates that the RCAF dug out a deep pit and literally buried everything that they would not move to Lahr. True or false? Who really knows?

Comments by Andy Little - Photos of the bottles were from a bottle dump in the woods next to the Arab Shack which was on the other side to the trailer park. We were told about it by the present owner of the café. There is a mass of material there and those bottles were on the surface. The bumper and licence plate were found by a friend and brought to me for web site processing. They were from a site just off the station plan, not far from those two buildings I referenced to some woods on the map. The story goes that a large pit was dug and all sorts of metal objects, cars, trucks etc. were just dumped in. It seems that there is material all over the place, and the area has been subject to some excavation by scrap metal searchers! I was told that a couple of jet engines had been found and sent for scrap. It would be nice to find at least some identifiable part such as a turbine blade or such.
